MEMORANDUM
To: The Honorable Mayor & Members of the City Commission
FROM: Steven Alexander
DATE: December 19, 2017
SUBJECT: Managers Report
Annexation of the High Pines / Ponce Davis area does not seem to
be easily attainable by South Miami. As you know, South Miami
responded to the request of numerous residents of the High Pines
area to participate in efforts to annex their area into the City of
South Miami. We have done so and recently we sent every resident
of those areas a document suggesting good reasons for becoming
a part of South Miami and along with that we sent color coded
response cards so we could track the interest of the two areas in
being annexed into South Miami.
As of 12-11-17:
High Pines Area (Approx. 1,991 Blue Cards)

We had prepared an ad to run in the neighbor's section of the
paper but at this point, unless we wish to undertake a concerted
campaign to influence a new opinion in these populations, we will
not proceed with that effort.
Our shuttle bus the SoMi Shuttle does in fact have riders and we are
tweaking the route to include a loop directly into the MetroRail
station which we and the route drivers believe will increase ridership.
