ADJOURNMENT CITY COMMISSION MINUTES October 3, 2017 3 1 2 3 Attest Maria M. Menendez, CMC City Clerk CITY COMMISSION MINUTES October 3, 2017 4 Approved Philip K. Stoddard, PhD Mayor THE CITY OF PLEASANT LIVING To: FROM: DATE: SUBJECT: CITY OF SOUTH MIAMI OFFICE OF THE CITY MANAGER MEMORANDUM The Honorable Mayor & Members of the City Commission Steven Alexander October 3,2017 Managers Report We have met recently with officials from the County and our County contractor G7, and Tetra Tech regarding storm debris. This was very helpful as we now have a new contact at the County that has been assigned to keep track of the grid areas that have been addressed by the debris haulers. This gives us much better ability to help guide them toward areas of heighted need. Contractors working on behalf of the City have, as of October 2, 2017, cleared and hauled 28A29.6 cubic yards of debris from 594 load tickets. The City Public Works staff has picked up some 50 loads at 25 cubic yards each for an additional 1,250 cubic yards. Altogether that is approximately 30,000 cubic yards and almost 650 truckloads. Due to continuing debris removal issues and agreements that may yet to be entered into, I am certifying that the declaration of emergency be extended to remain in effect until the first Commission meeting in November 2017; unless it is terminated earlier by the Commission or by certification by the City Manager or designee. We have received additional guidance from FEMA that is helpful with regard to how to negotiate the various nuances of their fundability criteria which we are reviewing for opportunities to enhance our debris collection and disposal rate as well as being able to address hanging branches and stumps that need to be removed and hauled to appropriate locations. I have met with staff today to review what we learned from our EOC operation including new procedures, staffing requirements, and equipment. We did well during the storm but we can do better and we are already making improvements. Coffee with a cop will be held at Shops of Sunset at 8am to 10 am at the main entrance of the Shops on Sunset Dr. Everyone is welcome.
