2 An Ordinance of the City of South Miami, located in Miami-Dade County,
3 Florida, approving a tentative millage rate for the fiscal year commencing
4 October 1, 2017, through September 30, 2018 ("fiscal year 2017/2018") which
5 amount may be amended at the first or second reading, and approving and
6 enacting the final millage rate of the City on second reading.
7 WHEREAS, pursuant to section 200.065, Florida Statutes, tax assessments for all real
8 property within the jurisdiction of the City of South Miami ("City"), for the fiscal year 2017-2018
9 has been made by the prop,erty appraiser for Miami-Dade County; and
10 WHEREAS, the City's current millage rate is 4.3000 and the rolled-back rate for the fiscal
11 year 2017-2018 is 4.0271; and
12 WHEREAS, the initial proposed millage of 4.3000 represents approximately 6.78%
13 increase over the rolled-back rate for the fiscal year 2017-2018; and
14 WHEREAS, pursuant to section 200.065, Florida Statutes, the Mayor and City
15 Commission are required to adopt a tentative millage rate and, thereafter, a final millage rate
16 for the taxing jurisdiction of the City of South Miami.
17 NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED BY THE MAYOR AND CITY COMMISSION OF THE
18 CITY OF SOUTH MIAMI, FLORIDA THAT:
19 Section 1. There shall be and hereby is levied upon real property in the City of South
20 Miami, Florida, a tax of 4.3000 mills on the dollar for the operational expenses of the
21 government of the City for the fiscal year beginning October 1, 2017, and ending September 30,
22 2018. This results in an increase of 6.78% or 0.2729 mills over the roll back rate of 4.0271
23 which is statutorily characterized as an increase in property tax.
24 Section 2. Severability. If any section, clause, sentence, or phrase of this ordinance
25 is for any reason held invalid or unconstitutional by a court of competent jurisdiction, this
26 holding shall not affect the validity of the remaining portions of this ordinance.
27 Section 3. Ordinances in Conflict. All ordinances or parts of ordinances and all
28 section and parts of sections of ordinances in direct conflict herewith are hereby repealed.

Section 4. Effective Date. This ordinance shall become effective upon enactment.
