THE CITY OF PI.EASANT LIVING '
CITY OF SOUTH MIAMI
OFFICE OF THE CITY MANAGER
MEMORANDUM
To: The Honorable Mayor & Members of the City Commission
FROM: Steven Alexander
DATE: June 20, 2017
SUBJECT: Managers Report
Vice Mayor Welsh planted two new oak trees in All American Park over
the weekend for which we are grateful.
Summer is here and shots have been fired recently. To help prevent more
incidents of this nature we need to increase our visibility in Zone Three for
the summer. Therefore, the Chief is putting together a shift assignment for
two officers to conduct a 15-20 minute park and walk by the Police
targeting the key areas of concern.
Therefore, effective as of last week, each shift will conduct a minimum of
2 park/walks in zone 3, primarily at the South Miami Gardens County
owned property and at Lee Park Condos. These park/walks will be
conducted with a minimum of 2 officers per detail. The details are logged
on worksheets and entered into CAD. These details are for visibility as well
as crime suppression, so being parked outside of the gate of the NE
entrance of Lee Park is not considered a park/walk, they need to walk
and talk to folks.
On Saturday Morning (06-10-2017) at approximately 4:18 am, MDPD
responded to the South Miami Public Works compound. While
conducting their investigation it was discovered that unknown subject(s)
entered the compound, stole a City owned vehicle (2009 Ford F250 FL Tag
XB4867) and apparently to facilitate' a speedy exit, rammed the Public
Works gate with the vehicle causing it to break open and hit a vehicle
that was parked across the street. John Reese from Public Works
responded to the scene qnd confirmed the theft which is now an active
MDPD Case as the Public Works compound is in the unincorporated area.
