A Resolution acknowledging Commissioner Harris' (Group Seat VI)
appointment of Mark Lago, as the representative of Group Seat VI, to serve
on the Planning Board for a two-year term ending June 19,2019.
WHEREAS, Article II, Section 8, Sub-section A of the City Charter provides that:
* * * When a Board or Committee is comprised 'of five members, each City
Commissioner shall appoint one person to serve as a representative on the
Board or Committee. When there are more than five (5) members on a
Board or Committee, each City Commissioner shall appoint one person to
serve as a representative on the Board or Committee, and all members of
such Board or Committee in excess of five (5) shall be appointed by three
(3) affirmative votes of the City Commission based on recommendations
. submitted by any City Commissioner. When a Board or Committee has less
than five (5) members, then the selection of all members shall be by three (3)
affirmative votes of the City Commission from recommendations submitted
by any City Commissioner. (Amended 2-09-10)
WHEREAS, the City Commission desires to acknowledge the appointment of Mr. Mark Lago, a
resident of the City of South Miami, to serve for a two-year term on the Planning Board. Appointment
shall expire June 19, 2019 unless earlier removed or a successor is duly appointed and qualified; and
WHEREAS, commencing with appointments made after January 1, 2009, Sec. 2-22
"Term Limits" of the Code of Ordinances provides that, appointees are limited to two (2)
consecutive two-year terms of membership on a specific commission, board, or committee.
After serving a maximum of two (2) consecutive year terms, an appointee shall not be
reappointed to the same commission, board or committee unless at least one year has elapsed
between the term limited position and the effective date of commencement of the proposed
appointment for a new term; and
WHEREAS, Sec. 2-22 "Term Limits" of the Code of Ordinances, as amended by Ordinance No.
06-14-2184, dated April 15, 2014, provides that the appointer, or his or her successor in office, may extend
the term limits of his or her appointment with the advice and consent of a majority of the City Commission;
and
WHEREAS, this will be Mr. Lago's first, two-year term serving on this Board.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE MAYOR AND CITY
COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF SOUTH MIAMI, FLORIDA, THAT:
Section 1. The City Commission hereby acknowledges Commissioner Harris' right
to appoint Mr. Mark Lago to the Planning Board as the representative of Group Seat VI pursuant
to the terms of the City Charter.
Section 2. The expiration date of this appointment shall be June 19, 2019, or
unless earlier removed, or until a successor is duly appointed and qualified.

Section 3. Effective Date. This resolution shall become effective after August 10,2017,
provided that the Planning Board meeting of August 8, 2017 is not cancelled or postponed.
