101 2 ORDINANCE No. ____ _ 3 An Ordinance relating to the fee schedule; amending Ordinance 02-17-2272 4 to remove all applicable City building permit fees relating to the installation 5 of solar panels from the "SCHEDULE of FEES and FINES" 6 10 7 WHEREAS, on November 8, 2016, voters in the State of Florida ("State") voted against 8 Amendment 1 that would have allowed there to be restrictions on rooftop solar panel expansion 9 for property owners in Florida; and 10 11 WHEREAS, solar energy allows citizens to move energy consumption. to a more 12 environmentally friendly source, providing a self-sustaining, pollution free form of energy; and 13 14 . WHEREAS, it is in the interests of the residents of the City of South Miami ("City") to 15 use and benefit from renewable energy such as solar power; and 16 17 WHEREAS, the City of Miami, the City of Coral Gables, and the Village of Pinecrest 18 have waived permitting fees for rooftop solar installations; and 19 20 WHEREAS, waiving all applicable City building permit fees for solar panel installations 21 will encourage the use of renewable solar energy in the City; and 22 23 WHEREAS, the waiver of all applicable City building permit fees for solar panel 24 installations will not affect any required Federal, State or Miami-Dade County fees required to 25 be paid; 26 27 28 NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED BY THE MAYOR AND CITY 29 COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF S<;>UTH MIAMI, FLORIDA: 30 . 31 Section 1. The "BUILDING PERMIT FEES SCHEDULE -Section D -Electrical 32 Permit Fees" is hereby amended as follows: 33 34 35 * * * 36 37 PHOTOVOLTAIC & SOLAR THERMAL SYSTEMS 38 "Waiver of permitting fees: All applicable City building permit fees relating to the installation of 39 solar panels are hereby waived for Residential and Commercial properties. This waiver does not 40 affect any required Federal, State or Miami-Dade County fees required to be paid.
