RESOLUTION NO. _ 1
2
A Resolution supporting equal pay protections and directing the 3
City Manager to implement equal pay policies and procedures. 4
5
WHEREAS, a woman in 1963 was paid on average only 59 cents for each dollar paid to 6

Equal Pay Act of 1963 (29 U.S.C. 201 note; Public Law 88-38) (referred to in this 10
preamble as the "Equal Pay Act"), unequivocally affirming that women deserve equal pay 11
for equal work; and 12
WHEREAS, the enactment of the Equal Pay Act laid the groundwork for title VII 13

vastly expanded opportunities for girls and women at school and work; and 15

male counterparts; and 21

held beliefs regarding equality and fundamental fairness; and 23

gap of $877,480, and Latinas on average face a lifetime wage gap of $1,007,080; and 28
WHEREAS, the City of South Miami has made significant commitment to implement 29
practices ensuring gender wage equality by establishing a formal and structured pay plan; and 30
