A Resolution acknowledging Commissioner Bob Welsh's (Group Seat III)
re-appointment of Laurie Kahn,as the representative of Group Seat III,to
serve on the Planning Board,for a two-year term ending June 1,2019.
WHEREAS,Article II,Section 8,Sub-section A of the City Charter provides that:
***When a Board or Committee is comprised of five members,each City
Commissioner shall appoint one person toserve asa representative onthe
Board or Committee.When there are more than five (5)members on a
Board or Committee,each City Commissioner shall appoint one person to
serveasa representative onthe Board orCommittee,and all members of
such Board or Committee in excess of five(5)shall be appointed by three
(3)affirmative votes of the City Commission based on recommendations
submitted byanyCity Commissioner.When a Board or Committee hasless
than five(5)members,then the selection of all members shallbebythree(3)
affirmative votes of theCity Commission from recommendations submitted
by any City Commissioner.(Amended 2-09-10)
WHEREAS,theCityCommissiondesirestoacknowledgetheRE-appointmentofLaurieKahn,a
resident of theCity of SouthMiami,toserveforatwo-yeartermonthePlanningBoard.Appointment
shallexpireJune1,2019 oruntilremovedorunlessasuccessorisdulyappointedandqualified;and
WHEREAS,commencing with appointments made after January 1,2009,Sec.2-22
"Term Limits"of the Code of Ordinances provides that,appointees are limited totwo(2)
consecutive two-year terms of membership ona specific commission,board,or committee.
Afterservinga maximum of two(2)consecutive year terms,an appointee shallnotbe
reappointed tothesame commission,boardorcommitteeunlessatleastoneyearhaselapsed
between theterm limited position andtheeffectivedate of commencement of theproposed
appointment for a new term;and
WHEREAS,Sec.2-22 "Term Limits"of the Code of Ordinances,as amended by Ordinance No.
06-14-2184,datedApril 15,2014,providesthatthe appointer,orhisorhersuccessorinoffice,mayextend
thetermlimits of hisorherappointmentwiththeadviceandconsent of amajority of theCityCommission;
and
WHEREAS,thiswillbeMs.Kahn's second,two-year term serving onthisBoard.
NOW,THEREFORE,BE IT RESOLVED BY THE MAYOR AND CITY
COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF SOUTH MIAMI,FLORIDA,THAT:
Section 1.The City Commission hereby acknowledges Commissioner Welsh's right
to re-appoint Laurie Kahn tothe Planning Boardasthe representative of Group Seat III pursuant
to the terms of the City Charter.
Section 2.The above Recitals are true and correct and incorporated herein by
this reference.

Section 3.The expiration date of this appointment shall be June 1,2019.
Section 4.Effective Date.This resolution shall become effective immediately upon
adoption by vote of theCity Commission.
