A Resolution for the City of South Miami to become a
nominal sponsor of solar purchasing co-operatives
organized by FLSUN.
WHEREAS,on November 8,2016,voters inthe State of Florida ("State")voted
against Amendment 1 that would have allowed there tobe restrictions on rooftop solar
panel expansion for property owners in Florida;and
WHEREAS,solar energy allows citizens to move energy consumption toa more
environmentallyfriendlysource,providingaself-sustaining,pollutionfreeform of
energy;and
WHEREAS,itisinthe interests of the residents of the City of South Miami
("City")to and benefit from renewable energy such as solar power;and
WHEREAS,the City of South Miami isa charter member of the Green Corridor
interlocal coalition,devoted to providing renewable energy to residents of Miami-Dade
County;and
WHEREAS,the Green Corridor Board has provided a grant to FLSUN to create
solar buying co-operatives for residents of Miami-Dade County including South Miami;
and
WHEREAS,existing sponsors forthe FLSUN co-ops include The League of
Women Voters,Florida,League of Women Voters Miami-Dade,The Green Corridor
Property Assessment Clean Energy (PACE)District,Tropical Audubon Society,RiseUp
Florida,CLEO Institute,Citizens Climate Lobby,Sustainable Miami,Resilient Miami,
Urban Impact Lab,Women's March Miami,The Unitarian Universalists Congregation of
Miami,Earth Ethics Institute,Miami-Dade College,and City of Miami Commissioner
Ken Russell's Office;and
WHEREAS,becoming a sponsor of FLSUN co-ops does not require the City to
expend funds.
NOW,THEREFORE,BE IT RESOLVED BY THE MAYOR AND CITY
COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF SOUTH MIAMI,FLORIDA,THAT:
Section 1.The City Commission hereby agrees tobea sponsor of the FLSUN
solar purchasing co-ops atnocosttotheCity,and authorizes the City Manager to allow
FLSUN tousethe City's logoonits sponsorship pagealong with logos fromthe other
sponsoring entities.
Section 2.If any section clause,sentence,or phrase of this resolution isfor
any reason held invalid or unconstitutional bya court of competent jurisdiction,the
holding shallnot affect the validity of the remaining portions of this resolution.
Section 3.This resolution shalltake effect immediately upon adoption.
