WHEREAS,theCityconductsperiodicauctionsto dispose ofandgeneraterevenuefrom assetswhichhave reached theend of theirusefullife,and; WHEREAS,these auctions can generate substantial revenue totheCityfora comparatively low administration cost,and; WHEREAS,theaccumulation of variousassetsoverthepasttwoyears,including vehiclesandheavyequipment,hasledtoaneedforanauctionwithinthenexttwomonths,and; WHEREAS,anexperiencedandreputableprofessionalauctioneerhasbeenidentifiedwho iscurrentlyactiveinmunicipalauctionsforSouthFloridacities. NOW THEREFORE.BE IT RESOLVED BY THE MAYOR AND CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF SOUTH MIAMI,FLORIDA: Section 1.The City Manager be,andis hereby authorized to disburse the sum of 1,750.00 to Jay Sugarman Auctioneers. The auctioneer chosen,Jay Sugarman Auctioneers,has been retained by the Cityinseveral pastauctions.Overthepasttwoyears,thefirmhas provided thistype of servicetothe cities of Davie,Sunrise,Miramar andCoralSprings. Sugarman's termsaresimple:theabovefeecoversadvertisingandmarketingexpenses. Theystaffandmanagetheoperationonauctionday.Thefeechargedinterms of itemsale isatenpercent "buyer's premium"which isaddedontotheauctionprice.Thisineffectis their commission,whichhasnocost implication totheCity.Asummary of Sugarman's background andtermsisattached. TheCity'slastauctiontook place in 1995.Asa result,a substantial number of items, including,vehicles and heavy equipment,are available for auction.I therefore recommend tothe Commission thatthis expenditure be approved.
