RESOLUTION NO.124-97-10094 A RESOLUTION OF THE MAYOR AND CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF SOUTH MIAMI,FLORIDA,SUPPORTING DADE COUNTY PUBLIC SCHOOLS AND CALLING UPON THE STATE OF FLORIDA LEGISLATURE TO HOLD A SPECIAL SESSION IN THE FALL OF 1997 TO DEVELOP AND PROVIDE THE APPROPRIATE FUNDING AND LEVELS OF FLEXIBILITY NEEDED BY ALL SCHOOL BOARDS IN THE STATE. WHEREAS,the Mayor and City Commission recognizes that the schools in Dade County are greatly overcrowded;and WHEREAS,The City Commission generally support the goals of Eastward Ho and the Governor's Commission fir a Sustainable south Florida;and WHEREAS,changes bytheStateof Florida restricting the flexibilityintheuseofcapitalfundingand delivery methods for educational facilities may notbe consistent with the goals of Eastward Ho and the Governor's Commission for a Sustainable South Florida which promote urban infill development and urban redevelopment;and WHEREAS,theCity Commission haslong been committed toDade County'spubliceducation system,andalleducationaldelivery systems throughout the State ofFlorida. NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED BY THE MAYOR AND CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF SOUTH MIAMI,FLORIDA: Section 1.TheCityCommissionsupportsthevarious missions of the School Board of Dade County,Florida and calls uponthe State of Florida legislature toholda Special Session intheFallof1997toaddress public school overcrowding and related issues in Dade County and throughout the State of Florida. Section 2.The City Commission encourages the State of FloridaLegislaturetoprovidetheappropriateleveloffunding and flexibility neededbypublicschool districts toaddress overcrowding issues. Section 3.The City Commission encourages the State of Florida Legislature toprovidethe appropriate levelof flexibilitytotheSchoolBoardofDadeCounty,Florida,sothey may support and participate in developing the goals of Eastward Ho and the Governors Commission for a Sustainable South Florida.
