MARTIN LUTHER KING,JR.,STEERING COMMITTEE WHEREAS,the South Miami Martin Luther King,Jr.,Steering Committee is sponsoring its 2nd AnnualBlack History Program on Saturday,February 22,19 97;and WHEREAS,last year the City of South Miami co-sponsored this event by providing in-kind services such as police,public works and parks &recreation;and WHEREAS, tradition by Committee. the City Commission desires giving its full support to to continue this the MLK Steering NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED BY THE MAYOR AND CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF SOUTH MIAMI,FLORIDA: Section 1.The City of South Miami fully supports the Black History Program sponsored bythe Martin Luther King,Jr., Steering Committee. Section 2.TheCityofSouth Miami continues the tradition of support byprovidingin-kind services suchas police,publicworksandparks&recreationforthis event. Section 3. upon approval. MEMORANDUM TO:David D.Bethel DATE:1/29/97 Commissioner FROM:Charles Christie Chairman MLK Steering Committee RE:2nd Annual MLK Black History Program -2/22/97 The M.L.K.Steering Committee would like for you to endorse a resolution co-sponsoring the 2nd Annual Black History Program scheduled for February 22,1997. I know this request is rather late but we are just getting over the MLK Day Celebration.Any help the City can provide will be appreciated.We,the MLK Committee have deposited $500.00 for the use of Murray Park from January 18th,this amount is still in the City's account. Last year the MLK Committee sponsored a program at Murray Park for $3,000.00 in addition to what in-kind services the City of South Miami provided fe.gr.police service,public works and parks & recreation services) This year in addition to in-kind services the MLK Committee is in need of monetary donations in excess of $2,000.00. Plans for this year's event includes three local school bands and the Miami Bahamas Junkanoos.There will be speakers,arts &crafts and a program consisting of song,dance,poetry and drama. Your support of this effort it will help all citizens of South Miami feel proud to reside in the "City of Pleasant Living". Thanking you in advance for your assistance in this matter.
