ORDINANCE NO. 30 -71 -734
ORDINANCE OF THE CITY OF SOUTH
MIAMI, FLORIDA, REPEALING ORDIN-
ANCE 15 -71 -719 WHICH AMENDED
SECTION 9 -2 CODE OF ORDINANCES,
CITY OF SOUTH MIAMI -, FLORIDA, BY
PROVIDING THAT PERSONS HAVING
REACHED THEIR 18TH BIRTHDAY AND
OTHERWISE QUALIFIED, SHALL BE
QUALIFIED TO VOTE IN CITY ELECTIONS,
'WHEREAS, the Attorney General of the State of Florida,
has rendered an opinion questioning the legality and advisability
of municipalities providing by ordinance for voting by persona
over the age of 18 and under the age of 21, and
WHEREAS, the Attorney General has recommended that such
changes be by Charter Amendment;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED BY THE MAYOR AND CITY
COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SOUTH MIAMI, FLORIDA;
Section 1. That Ordinance 15 -17 -719 amending Section 9 -2
Code of Ordinances, City of South Miami, Florida, providing for
voting in municipal elections by persons 18 years of age otherwise
qualified, be and is repealed hereby.
Section_ 2. That this ordinance shall take effect the
day of 1971„
