ORDINANCE 7920 ORDINANCE: NO. 21 -73 -792 AN ORDILANCE OF THE CITY OF SOUTH MIAMI, FLORIDA, EXERCISING AN OPTION TO EXCLUDE PART TIME POSITIONS FROM SOCIAL ;SECURITY COVERAGE„ DEFINING PART TIME POSITIONS, AND AUTHORIZING THE PROPER OFFICERS OF THE CITY TO AMEND AND /OR MODIFY THE AGREEMENT BETWEEN THE CITY OF SOUTH MIAMI AND THE STATE OF FLORIDA, THERFORE, AND PROVIDING FOR THIS ORDINANCE TO BE AN EMERGENCY ORDINANCE AND SHALL 'TAKE EFFECT IMMEDIATELY UPON PASSAGE. WHEREAS, the City of South Miami, on April 29, 1952, adopted Ordinance No. 246 with regard to social security, and. WHEREAS, effective January 1, 1951, the City of South Miami and the State of Florida entered into an agreement with regard to social security, and WHEREAS, it is the desire of the City of South Miami to take such steps as may be necessary under the law to exclude from social security coverage all part time positions of the city of South Miami. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED BY THE MAYOR AND CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SOUTH MIAMI, FLORIDA Section 1. Bart time positions of the City of South Miami be, and they are hereby excluded from social security coverage. Section 2. The following definition of "part time position" shall be used in determining which positions shall be subject to the exclusion: "A part time position is one which does not normally require more that 500 hours work in any 12 ,month period." Section 4. This ordinance is declared to be an emergency ordinance adopted for the purpose of meeting a public emergency affecting the life, safety, health and property of the residents of the City of South Miami,, and the requirement of reading this ordinance at no less than two meetings of the City Council is hereby dispensed with and this ordinance shall take effect immediately at the time to its passage upon an affirmative vote of two- thirds of the membership of the City Council. The Council declares that an emergency exists because of the fact that the City has only until December 16, 1973 to return this ordinance duly adopted to the State of Florida.
