Managers Report
The County is planning to reduce or suspend larvicide treatments in
various areas of the County. They will be monitoring mosquito counts
across the County on a regular basis going forward and will take
appropriate action in the event that the counts increase. They
suspended larvicide treatments in the City of South Miami effective
NovembE;r 23, 2016, with the treatment for Tuesday, November 22,
2016 being the last scheduled treatment for this mosquito season.
We have received an application by the new owners of the Shops of
Sunset to amend the Future Land Use Element of the City of South
Miami Comprehensive Plan. The amendment seeks to add a new
category and apply the category to the Future Land Use Map as a
small-scale amendment (the "Proposed Amendment"). The
applicant has requested confirmation that the proposal satisfies the
requirements of section 163.3187(1) (cL Florida Statutes for a small-
scale amendment.
Please note that the proposed text does not involve a change to the
goals, policies, or objectives of the City's Comprehensive Plan.
Further, the property that is the subject of this request is less than ten
(10) acres in size.
The City has taken no action with respect to approving the requests.
Before we initiate the City's review process, we have requested input
and guidance as to whether they can be reviewed in accordance
with the small-scale procedures provided in section 163.3187, Florida
Statutes from the Florida Department of Economic Opportunity. We

expect this request will take some time for them to analyze and we
will report back to you once this has occurred. .
We are initiating a Silver sneakers flex program which Begins on
Tuesday, January 3, 2017. The two main classes the City plans to
offer through the FLEX program are Chair Aerobics and Strength and
Balance. Both of these classes invite older individuals with limited
fitness levels to participate in classes that focus on improving the
quality of life and promote a healthy lifestyle. Each class will be led
by an experienced and certified instructor.
Monday, Wednesday, and Friday at lOAM (Chair Aerobics)
Tuesday and Thursday at lOAM (Strength and Balance)
I have asked Public Works to create a structure on which to place
the menorah after some members of the public brought this situation
to our attention.
