Mr. Carlos Alamilla, owner and operator of Miami All Stars (lithe applicant"), has requested to host a 'COLLEGE AVENUE DAY' which features a 3-on-3 basketball tournament and college conference event at the Gibson-Bethel Community Center on Sunday, November 13, 2016 from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. The tournament component is for participants between the ages of 10 and 18. The college conference component is an opportunity for high school students to learn about the college admission process and how to obtain scholarships and financial aid. The applicant has more than 30 years of experience in advising and counseling students in college admissions and obtaining scholarships and financial ~id. Mr. Alamilla was one of the founders of the Norman Topping Scholarship Fund at the University of Southern California that has given more than $12 million in scholarships. The City Commission had agreed on Tuesday, November 1, 2016 to waive the gymnasium fee in the amount of $720 dollars. FEE(S) TO BE WAIVED: The applicant has requested to waive the gymnasium rental fee in the amount of $720 dollars. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE MAYOR AND CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF SOUTH MIAMI, FLORIDA THAT: Section 1: The City Manager is authorized to waive the fees in the amount of $720 for the use of the basketball gymnasium by Miami All Stars at the Gibson-Bethel Community Center on Sunday, November 13, 2016. Section 2: If any section clause, sentence, or phrase of this resolution is for any reason held invalid or unconstitutional by a court of competent jurisdiction, the holding shall not affect the validity of the remaining portions of this resolution.
