3 A Resolution waiving term limits and recognizing the appointment of Pam
4 Lahiff by Commissioner Harris as his representative from Group IV to serve
5 on the Historic Preservation Board for an additional two-year term ending
6 October 4, 2018.

8 WHEREAS, the Mayor and Commission recognize the important contributions made by
9 those who serve on the various City· boards and committees and wish to appoint a full
10 complement to each ofthe active boards and committees; and
11
12 WHEREAS, commencing with appointments made after January 1, 2009, Sec. 2-22
13 "Term Limits" of the Code of Ordinances provides that, appointees are limited to two (2)
14 consecutive two-year terms of membership on a specific commission, board, or committee. After
15 serving a maximum of two (2) consecutive year terms, an appointee shall not be reappointed to
16 the same commission, board or committee unless at least one year has elapsed between the term
17 limited position and the effective date of commencement of the proposed appointment for a new
18 term; and

20 WHEREAS, Sec. 2-22 "Term Limits" of the Code of Ordinances, as amended by
21 Ordinance No. 06-14-2184, dated April 15, 2014, provides that the app 0 inter, or his or her
22 successor in office, may extend the term limits of his or her appointment with the advice and
23 consent of a majority of the City Commission; and

25 WHEREAS, pursuant to Sec. 2-22 "Term Limits" of the Code of Ordinances, this will
26 be Ms. Lahiff's fourth two-year term.

28 WHEREAS, Ms. Lahiff was previously appointed and she will have served as a board
29 member of the Historic Preservation Board for over four continuous years when her current
30 appointment expires; and

32 WHEREAS, Commissioner Harris desires to extend the term limits for Ms. Lahiff and to
33 re-appoint Ms. Lahiff to serve on the Historic Preservation Board for an additional two-year
34 term, thus exceeding the City's term limit ordinance as an allowable exception. Her appointment
35 for this new term will expire October 4, 2018, or unless removed or until a successor is duly
36 appointed and qualified.

38 WHEREAS, the City Commission desires to waive term limits as to Pam Lahiff so that
39 she may serve for another two-year term on the Historic Preservation Board.

42 NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE MAYOR AND CITY
43 COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF SOUTH MIAMI, FLORIDA, THAT:

45 Section 1. The conditions required to waive term limits are hereby found to exist and
46 the term limits for Pam Lahiff are hereby waived pursuant to Ordinance No. 06-14-2184. The

City Commission hereby recognizes the appointment of Pam Lahiff by Commissioner Harris as
his representative from Group IV to serve on the Historic Preservation Board for an additional
two-year term and as an exception to the term limits set forth in Section 2-22 of the City's Code
of Ordinances.
Section 2. The expiration date of this appointment(s) shall be October 4,2018, unless
earlier removed, or until a successor is duly appointed and qualified.
Section 3. This resolution shall take effect immediately upon adoption.
