Significant Accomplishments: Processed over 60% of all federal Title IV assistance provided to foreign educational institutions since 1982. Duties included: establishing the annual legislative goals of the university and derailing strategies for advancing public and governmental support at the federal, state, and municipal levels; coordinating all internal and external communications related to governmental affairs; supervising the utilization of volunteers and staff in the lobbying effort; developing and maintaining strong and effective relationships with many levels of the business, professional, and political sectors of the community and the state; promoting university-industry collaborative efforts leading to the formation of research parks and similar ventures. The University received more academic program approvals from the Board of regents and Legislature than all other Florida public universities combined. Obtained legislative funding to construct five major campus facilities and numerous auxiliary structures. Launched and obtained funding for the Comprehensive University Plan, a $160 million program to enhance the availability of postsecondary education in Southeast Florida. 5/77 to 2/80 The City of Miami Miami, Florida Administrative Assistant to the Mayor A senior position with involvement in all activities of the Office of the Mayor at City Hall. Duties included: developing and applying office procedures relating to operations, personnel, and budget; serving as principal mayoral representative at public events and on panels, committees, and to the City administration; planning, organizing, and coordinating mayoral activities with the private sector and other governmental entities; formulating strategies for advancing public understanding and support of the Mayor’s programs; articulating the Mayor’s goals and objectives to the community and the media. Significant Accomplishments: Mediated between neighborhood advisory boards and the City administration regarding the expenditure of community development funds, thus assuring the success of the Mayor’s principal vehicle for stimulating investments in the core areas of Miami. Monitored hearings on the police department to revamp operational procedures and increasing minority representation on the force. Conceived and organized the City of Miami’s relief flight to assist the victims of hurricane David in the Dominican Republic.
