CITY or PLEASANT LIVING To: FROM: DATE: SUBJECT: CITY OF SOUTH MIAMI OFFICE OF THE CITY MANAGER MEMORANDUM The Honorable Mayor & Members of the City Commission Steven Alexander April 19, 2016 Managers Report The FRS and proposed new pension programs will be presented for discussion at the next Commission meeting on May 3. We appreciate the Commission allowing us to wait until the actuary has produced the necessary evaluations of the two programs and we will be ready for a full discussion at that meeting in May. Alfredo Riverol has won another national award. This one is the Association of Government Accountants and the award is for distinguished local governrnent leadership. We are proud of his continued achievements. We have been working for a very long time with the PBA and the two bargaining units to reach a mutually acceptable agreement. Monday, due to an extra effort by the PBA leadership, we proposed and they tentatively accepted, language, which will hopefully become the new agreement. The Chief, Mr. Rlverol and myself will brief each of you on the proposed agreements and field your comments and concerns if any. We held a prebid meeting for the comprehensive plan and land development code revision RFQ. Seven firms were represented. Attendance at this meeting was not necessary for bidders so we may have more teams in competition for this critical work. The Neat Streets Miami Board, awarded Vice Mayor Welsh as the winner of the 2016 Crown Canopy Award. This award is presented each year to an individual who has devoted his/her career to increasing the tree canopy in Miami-Dade County. The County informed us that the "competition was tough, but Vice Mayor Welsh won the hearts and minds of the review panel over five other candidates because of his strong support and evident passion for trees." Angelica Bueno has been hired to replace Jennifer Korth. She has an excellent resume, including a LEED GA certification and has worked at the City of Miramar since 2005 as a sustainable facilities planner, and city planner in two different departments. We are very pleased to have her and she is already working on THE CITY OF PI..EASANT LIVING several grant proposals. CITY OF SOUTH MIAMI OFFICE OF THE CITY MANAGER MEMORANDUM We have a gas leak or vapor issue that has been detected in the Police Building.
