A Resolution appointing Douglas Thompson to serve on the Parks and
Recreation Board for a two-year term ending November 18,2017.
WHEREAS,the Mayor and Commission recognize the important contributions made by
those who serve onthe various City boards and committees and wish to appoint afull complement to
each of the active boards and committees;and
WHEREAS,theCity Commission desires to re-appoint Douglas Thompson toserveonthe
Parksand Recreation Board.This appointment(s)shallexpire November 18,2017oruntila
successor is duly appointed and qualified.
WHEREAS,commencing with appointments madeafter January 1,2009,Sec.2-22 "Term
Limits"of theCode of Ordinances provides that,appointees are limited totwo(2)consecutive two-
yearterms of membership onaspecificcommission,board,or committee.After servingamaximum
of two(2)consecutiveyearterms,anappointeeshallnotbereappointedtothesamecommission,
boardor committee unlessatleastoneyearhaselapsedbetweenthetermlimited position andthe
effectivedate of commencement of the proposed appointment foranewterm.
WHEREAS,Sec.2-22 "Term Limits"of the Code of Ordinances,as amended by
OrdinanceNo.06-14-2184,datedApril15,2014,provides thatthe appointer,orhisorher
successor inoffice,may extend thetermlimits of hisorher appointment with theadviceand
consent of a majority of the City Commission;and
WHEREAS,Mr.Thompson wasoriginallyappointedin November 2013.
WHEREAS,pursuanttoSec.2-22"TermLimits"oftheCode of Ordinances,Mr.
Thompson's second two-year termwouldexpire November 18,2017.
NOW,THEREFORE,BE IT RESOLVED BY THE MAYOR AND CITY
COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF SOUTH MIAMI,FLORIDA,THAT:
Section 1.TheCityCommissionherebyappointsDouglasThompsontoserveonthe
Parks and Recreation Board.
Section 2.The expiration date of this appointment(s)shallbe November 18,2017or
untilasuccessorisdulyappointedandqualified,butineithereventthetermmaybeshortenedby
whoever makes the appointment.
Section 3.This resolution shalltake effect immediately upon adoption.
