A Resolution authorizing the City Manager to accept a donation from SoMi Swimmers
Support,ledbySallyPhilips,in the amount of $2,000 to be used towards swim classesat
Murray Park Aquatic Center.
WHEREAS,the City's Parks and Recreation Department received a donation in the amount of
$2,000 through the generous contributions ofSoMi Swimmers Support,ledbySallyPhilips,a resident of
South Miami;and
WHEREAS,this donation willbe used towards subsidizing swim lessons (50%)for youth
residents of South Miami;and
WHEREAS,the total cost for group swim lessons is$60 dollars for10 classes (1 session).The
discount is50%off a full-price swim session;and
WHEREAS,in order to qualify for a fee waiver,the applicant must submit a complete
application,verification oflow income status,proof of residency and participants must have no
outstanding balance for current or prior recreation programs.
NOW,THEREFORE,BEIT RESOLVED BYTHE MAYOR AND CITY COMMISSION OFTHECITYOF
SOUTH MIAMI,FLORIDA THAT:
Section 1.TheCity Manager is authorized to accept a donation contribution from SoMi
Swimmers Support,ledbySallyPhilips,in the amount of $2,000 to be used towards swim classes at
Murray Park Aquatic Center in accordance with the conditions set forth in the recitals above;increasing
the revenue lineitem 001-0000-347-2635,Rec Fees/Murray Park Aquatic Center,witha current revenue
balance of $5,072.
Section 2.Severability.Ifany section clause,sentence,or phrase ofthis resolution isforany
reason heldinvalidor unconstitutional bya court of competent jurisdiction,the holdingshall not affect
the validity of the remaining portions of this resolution.
Section 3.Effective Date.This resolution shall become effective immediately upon adoption by
vote of the City Commission.

bySallyPhilips,a resident of South Miami,the City'sParks and Recreation Department is offering fee
waivers towards swim classes forspringand summer 2016.The discount is 50%offafull-priceswim
session.Funding is limited.First come,first serve.

Ina state surrounded by water,inacity near the ocean,ina community with ponds,
poolsand canals,swimming is almost asimportantalifeskill as walking,riding abike,
driving a car,typing,cooking,reading,writing andbasicarithmetic.It isour hope that
every childinour community will know how toswim.
Contributions are being sought to subsidize swimming lessons for the children and
residents of South Miami.
To-date,<Jo3fe£<SumU~j~jgxa.*Fu/i/urh£has been pledged $2000.This will subsidize
10 lessons for about 45 students.Ten lessons is two weeks'worth of instruction.Most
people for whom swimming isa new activity will need several series of lessons in order
to become minimally competent.w *^
