WHEREAS, Patricia and Joe Calay have been residents of South Miami since 1980; WHEREAS, Joe Calay had been very helpful to all of his neighbors; WHEREAS, the neighborhood where Joe Calay lived mourns his passing; WHEREAS, a petition was circulated among his neighbors and signed by 28 of them requesting that S.W. 65 Avenue between S.W. 68 Street and S.W. 72 Street be named in his honor; and WHEREAS, the City Commission wishes to honor this member of the community by co- designating the section of S.W. 65 Avenue between S.W. 68 Street and S.W. 72 Street as "Joseph Theodore "Joe" Calay Drive". NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED BY THE MAYOR AND CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF SOUTH MIAMI, FLORIDA: Section 1. The section of S.W. 65 Avenue between S.W. 68 Street and S.W. 72 Street shall be co-designated to include the name "Joseph Theodore "Joe" Calay Drive", and it shall, as soon as authorized by Miami-Dade County, be known in and by the City of South Miami as S.W. 65 Avenue and "Joseph Theodore "Joe" Calay Drive", and signs shall be made and installed above the present place declaring that designation. Section 2. The City Clerk is hereby directed to submit this Resolution to Miami-Dade County and to take all other necessary actions to carry out the purpose of this Resolution. Section 3. This Resolution shall be provided to the US Postal Service and to the appropriate agencies to co-designate S.W. 65 Avenue, between S.W. 65 Avenue as "Joseph Theodore "Joe" Calay Drive". Section 4. Severability. If any section clause, sentence, or phrase of this resolution is for any reason held invalid or unconstitutional by a court of competent jurisdiction, the holding shall not affect the validity of the remaining portions of this resolution. Section 5. Effective Date. This resolution shall become effective immediately upon adoption by vote of the City Commission.
