RESOLUTION NO. ___ _
A Resolution of the City of South Miami honoring the tenth anniversary of
the climate change film, "An Inconvenient Truth" and hosting a community
conversation on climate change.
7 WHEREAS, numerous studies have established that Miami-Dade is comprised of some
8 of the world's most vulnerable areas to the impacts of climate change as the warming Earth's
9 melting ice caps IJush the sea level higher; and
10
11 WHEREAS, scientists believe that the rising sea level will threaten some of the region's
12 most vital facilities; and
13
14 WHEREAS, the South Miami City Commission has passed many resolutions calling for
15 action on climate change; and
16
17 WHEREAS, this year is the tenth anniversary of the landmark climate change movie,
18 "An Inconvenient Truth" by Nobel Peace Prize winner and Former Vice-President Al Gore.

20 NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE MAYOR AND CITY
21 COMMISSIONERS OF THE CITY OF SOUTH MIAMI, FLORIDA, THAT:

23 Section 1. The Mayor and the City Commission hereby invite community members to
24 view the tenth anniversary showing of the film, "An Inconvenient Truth" on climate change.
25 This viewing is to be held between 3:30 p.m. -5:30 p.m. on Saturday March 12,2016 at South
26 Miami City Hall.

28 Section 2. The Mayor and the City Commission hereby invite Miami-Dade local elected
29 officials to attend an Elected Officials Meet & Greet to be held before the film between 2:00 -
30 3:30 pm on Saturday March 12, 2016 at City Hall. Specifically, we invite: all local elected
31 officials of all the 33 municipalities of Miami-Dade; the Mayor of Miami-Dade County and all
32 local elected officials at the county level in Miami-Dade; all the elected Florida Legislature
33 representatives in the Miami-Dade delegation; all members of the U.S. Congressional delegation
34 that represents Miami-Dade.

36 Section 3. The City Clerk is hereby instructed to forward this resolution to all of the
37 elected officials listed in Section 2.

39 Section 4. Severability. If any section clause, sentence, or phrase of this resolution is for
40 any reason held invalid or nnconstitutional by a court of competent jurisdiction, the holding shall
41 not affect the validity of the remaining portions of this resolution.

43 Section 5. Effective Date. This resolution shall become effective immediately upon
44 adoption by vote of the City Commission.
