A Resolution of the City of South Miami honoring the tenth anniversary of 3
the climate change film, “An Inconvenient Truth” and hosting a community 4
conversation on climate change. 5

WHEREAS, numerous studies have established that Miami-Dade is comprised of some 7
of the world’s most vulnerable areas to the impacts of climate change as the warming Earth’s 8
melting ice caps push the sea level higher; and 9

WHEREAS, scientists believe that the rising sea level will threaten some of the region's 11
most vital facilities; and 12

WHEREAS, the South Miami City Commission has passed many resolutions calling for 14
action on climate change; and 15

WHEREAS, this year is the tenth anniversary of the landmark climate change movie, 17
“An Inconvenient Truth” by Nobel Peace Prize winner and Former Vice-President Al Gore. 18

NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE MAYOR AND CITY 20
COMMISSIONERS OF THE CITY OF SOUTH MIAMI, FLORIDA, THAT: 21

Section 1. The Mayor and the City Commission hereby invite community members to 23
view the tenth anniversary showing of the film, “An Inconvenient Truth” on climate change. 24
This viewing is to be held between 3:30 p.m. - 5:30 p.m. on Sunday March 13, 2016 at South 25
Miami City Hall. 26

Section 2. The Mayor and the City Commission hereby invite Miami-Dade local elected 28
officials to attend an Elected Officials Meet & Greet to be held before the film between 2:00 - 29
3:30 pm on Sunday March 13, 2016 at City Hall. Specifically, we invite: all local elected 30
officials of all the 33 municipalities of Miami-Dade; the Mayor of Miami-Dade County and all 31
local elected officials at the county level in Miami-Dade; all the elected Florida Legislature 32
representatives in the Miami-Dade delegation; all members of the U.S. Congressional delegation 33
that represents Miami-Dade. 34

Section 3. The Mayor and the City Commission hereby invite community members to a 36
forum and panel discussion following the movie. This discussion will be held between 5:30 p.m. 37
- 8:00 p.m. on Sunday March 13, 2016 at South Miami City Hall. 38

Section 4. The City Clerk is hereby instructed to forward this resolution to all of the 40
elected officials listed in Section 2. 41

Section 5. Severability. If any section clause, sentence, or phrase of this resolution is for 43
any reason held invalid or unconstitutional by a court of competent jurisdiction, the holding shall 44
not affect the validity of the remaining portions of this resolution. 45

Section 6. Effective Date. This resolution shall become effective immediately upon 2
adoption by vote of the City Commission. 3
