A RESOLUTION OF THE MAYOR AND CITY
COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF SOUTH
MIAMI,FLORIDA,AUTHORIZING THE CITY
MANAGER TO ENTER INTO AN
AGREEMENT WITH AQUAJET INC.TO
PROVIDE LAKE MANAGEMENT SERVICES
FOR THE FUCH'S PARK LAKE AT COST NOT
TO EXCEED $3,100 FOR THE CURRENT
FISCAL YEAR,AND CHARGING THE
DISBURSEMENT TO "STORMWATER FUND
-CONTRACTUAL SERVICES"ACCOUNT
NO.11-1730-541-3450.
WHEREAS,the ongoing maintenance of the City's onlylakeis
essential for environmental preservation,aesthetics,andthe City's image;
WHEREAS,the "health"of thelakeat Fuch's park is dependent upon
regular water treatments,weed andalgae control,fish/wildlife monitoring,
and analytical testing,and;
WHEREAS,AquaJet Inc.has satisfactorily provided all of these
services for the Fuch's Park lake during the previous fiscal year,and;
WHEREAS,AquaJet Inc.has been awarded an "Aquatic Weed
Control Services"contract with Dade County (Bid No.IB3563-1).
NOW THEREFORE,BE IT RESOLVED BY THE MAYOR AND
CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF SOUTH MIAMI,FLORIDA:
Section 1.The City Manager is hereby authorized to enter into an
agreement with AquaJet Inc.to provide lake management services forthe
Fuch's Park Lake.
Section 2.The contract with AquaJet Inc.is not to exceed $3,100,and
isto be based upon the fee structures established inthe Dade County
contract No.IB3563-1.

Section 3.This resolution shall become effective immediately after
adoption hereof.

AUTHORIZATION OF CITY
MANAGER TO ENTER INTO A

The attached resolution seeks approval to allow theCity Manager toenterintoan agreement with
AquaJetInc.to provide lake management servicesfortheFuch'sParklake.
ThelakeatFuch'sParkmustbeinspectedandtreatedregularlysothatitwillnotbecome
foul-smelling orincapable of sustainingaquaticlifesuchasfishandducks.Inasmuch,thelake
must be chemically treated to control excessive algae,whilethehealth of beneficial aquatic
plantsmustbeprotected.Inaddition,thepopulationandmixture of fishspeciesandotherfauna
mustbemonitored.Thechemicalproperties of thelakesuchaspHandthelevel of dissolved
oxygenmustalsobetested,andadjustedasnecessary.
AquaJet Inc.was awarded a one-year contract from theCity of SouthMiamilastyear following a
competitivebidprocess.TheattachedresolutionseekstoextendtheAquaJetInc.contractfor
anotheryearusingthesameunit-pricefeestructureestablishedintheprevious contract.It
shouldalsobenotedthatAquaJetInc.currentlyholdscompetitivebidcontractsawardedfrom
theCityof Hialeah Gardens,theCityof Dania,theCityof Opa-locka,Metropolitan Dade
County,andthe University of Miami.
During thepast year,AquaJet's routine maintenance has resulted in improved water quality,a
significant decrease inweedsalongthe lake's perimeter,anda decrease in floating algae.This
lake isa "hallmark"feature atoneofthe City's most visible parks.Thelakeis home toa great
variety offish,waterfowl,andseveralimportantspecies of nativeflora.Itsmaintenanceshould
thereforebeperformedbyexperienced environmental professionals.
Basedupontheabove,itisrecommendedthattheCity Commission authorizethecontract
extension.
