A Resolution of the City of South Miami honoring the tenth anniversary of
the climate change film,"An Inconvenient Truth"and hosting a community
conversation on climate change.
WHEREAS,numerous studieshave established that Miami-Dade is comprised of some
of the world's most vulnerable areastotheimpacts of climate changeasthe warming Earth's
melting icecaps push thesealevel higher;and
WHEREAS,scientists believe that the rising sea level will threaten some of the region's
most vital facilities;and
WHEREAS,the South Miami City Commission has passed many resolutions calling for
action on climate change;and
WHEREAS,this year is the tenth anniversary of the landmark climate change movie,
"An Inconvenient Truth"by Nobel Peace Prize winner and Former Vice-President Al Gore.
NOW THEREFORE,BE IT RESOLVED BY THE MAYOR AND CITY
COMMISSIONERS OF THE CITY OF SOUTH MIAMI,FLORIDA,THAT:
Section 1.The Mayor and the City Commission hereby invite community members to
view the tenth anniversary showing of thefilm,"An Inconvenient Truth"on climate change.
This viewing istobe held between 3:30p.m.-5:30p.m.on Sunday March 13,2016atSouth
Miami City Hall.
Section 2.The Mayor and the City Commission hereby invite Miami-Dade local elected
officials to attend an Elected Officials Meet &Greet to be held before the film between 2:00 -
3:30pmon Sunday March 13,2016atCityHall.Specifically,weinvite:alllocalelected
officials of allthe33 municipalities of Miami-Dade;the Mayor of Miami-Dade Countyandall
localelected officials atthecountylevelinMiami-Dade;allthe elected Florida Legislature
representatives inthe Miami-Dade delegation;all members of theU.S.Congressional delegation
that represents Miami-Dade.
Section 3.TheMayorandtheCity Commission herebyinvite community memberstoa
forumandpaneldiscussionfollowingthemovie.Thisdiscussionwillbeheldbetween5:30p.m.
-8:00p.m.onSunday March 13,2016atSouthMiamiCityHall.
Section 4.The City Clerk is hereby instructed to forward this resolution toall of the
elected officials listed in Section 2.
Section 5.Severability.If anysectionclause,sentence,orphrase of thisresolutionisfor
anyreasonheldinvalidorunconstitutionalbyacourt of competentjurisdiction,theholdingshall
notaffectthevalidity of theremainingportions of thisresolution.

Section 6.Effective Date.This resolution shall become effective immediately upon
adoptionbyvote of theCity Commission.
