Rodriguez This is an application for selective demolition and alterations to an existing computer room and access to it, in a portion of the second floor of a Hospital. Approx 1,200sf are involved, at an indicated cost of $300,000. 1. Identify the class of rehabilitation, per NFPA 101: Chapter 43. This appears to be Reconstruction, due to interruption of Life Safety systems and means of egress for the subject space. Confirm that subject space shall be unoccupied during work scope, and that temporary separation shown will be installed after hours. 2. Correct sheet LS -1 code references: NFPA 101 current edition is 2009, and Chapter 19, Existing Health Care appears to apply more accurately to subject space, as incidental use of the hospital this room serves. NFPA 70 current edition is listed in NFPA 101 as 2008, in lieu of 2005 indicated. 3. The subject room is a computer room, deemed to fall under the scope /application of NFPA 75, Protection of Information Technology Equipment. This standard is not listed in NFPA 1 or 101, but the 2009 edition is listed in the Florida. Statutes under 69A- 3.012, thereby making it Code, as if included in NFPA 101. NFPA 75:8.1.1.2 requires fire protection/suppression in raised floors. NFPA 75:1.4.2 excludes application in installations approved prior to the effective date of standard. NFPA 13, appears to require protection/suppression in concealed spaces containing combustibles, and the 2012 edition has the identical requirement found in NFPA 75:8.1.1.2. Accordingly, please include on plans the criteria needed to determine application of Code, to establish FP requirements or exclusions for the subject room. 4. Plans show a l Oft long new ramp, with a 1:10 slope, to negotiate a 12" difference in elevation. This does not comply with NFPA 101:7.5, and requires correction. The existing ramp is clearly shorter, and is equipped with handrail on only one side. This ramp appears to be proposed inactive as a means of egress. Accordingly, if labeled for "equipment transfer only; not for means of egress ", it may remain for that purpose. 5. Clarify what fire alarm panel is being removed and if relocated, where. 6. Clarify if existing doors to existing ramp have exit marking, and if so, call for removal, and provide for exit marking at new doors at new ramp. 7. Add a note which provides for maintaining or immediately restoring fire /smoke rated construction/safing. 8. Submit written response to plan review comments, indicating where in the plans the response /information may be found. There may be additional comments. 9. Meeting with reviewer is offered as possible best method of addressing concerns over this review. An appointment can be secured by calling 786.315.2771 the Friday or Wednesday before. Narrative may be unnecessary after meeting.
