OPERATION This door is always unlocked in the direction of egress.
Activation of inside lock lever will allow free egress at all times.
Activation of the building automatic sprinkler or fire detection system, if provided, shall
automatically unlock the doors in the direction of egress and the doors shall remain
unlocked until the fire protective signaling system has been manually reset.
In the event of a fire alarm or power failure will result in immediate release
of the door lock allowing free travel in both directions.

1. Wall Assembly -The 1, 2, 3 or 4 hr fire -rated gypsum wallboard /stud wall assembly shall be constructed of the
materials and in the manner described in the individual U300 or U400 Series Wall or Partition Designs in the UL
Fire Resistance Directory and shall include the following construction features:
A. Studs - Wall framing may consist of either wood studs (max 2 h fire rated assemblies) or steel channel
studs. Wood studs to consist of
nom 2 by 4 in. lumber spaced 16 in. OC with nom 2 by 4 in. lumber end plates and cross braces. Steel
studs to be min 3 -5/8 in.
wide by 1 -3/8 in. deep channels spaced max 24 in. OC.
B. Gypsum Board* -Nom 1/2 or 5/8 in. thick, 4 ft. wide with square or tapered edges. The gypsum wallboard
type, thickness, number of layers,
fastener type and sheet orientation shall be as specified in the individual U300 or U400 Series Design in
the UL Fire Resistance
Directory. Max diam of opening is 13 -1/2 in.
2. Pipe or Conduit -Nom 12 in. diam (or smaller) Schedule 10 (or heavier) steel pipe, nom 12 in. diam (or smaller)
service weight (or heavier) cast iron soil pipe, nom 12 in. diam (or smaller) Class 50 (or heavier) ductile
iron pressure pipe, nom 6 in. diam (or smaller) steel conduit, nom 4 in. diam (or smaller) steel electrical
metallic tubing, nom 6 in. diam (or smaller) Type L or (or heavier) copper tubing or nom 1 in. diam (or
smaller) flexible steel conduit. When copper pipe is used, max F Rating of firestop system (Item 3) is 2 h.
Steel pipes or conduits larger than nom 4 in. diam may only be used in walls constructed using steel
channel studs. A max of one pipe or conduit is permitted in the firestop system. Pipe or conduit to be
installed near center of stud cavity width and to be rigidly supported on both sides of wall assembly.
3. Fill, Void or Cavity Material* - Caulk -Caulk fill material installed to completely fill annular space between pipe or
conduit and gypsum wallboard and with a min 1/4 in. diam bead of caulk applied to perimeter of pipe or
conduit at its egress from the wall. Caulk installed symmetrically on both sides of wall assembly. The
hourly F Rating of the firestop system is dependent upon the hourly fire rating of the wall assembly in
which it is installed, as shown in the following table. The hourly T Rating of the firestop system is
dependent upon the type or size of the pipe or conduit and the hourly fire rating of the wall assembly in
which it is installed, as tabulated below:

Access controlled Door with Delayed Egress Electra- Magnetic Locks
IN ACCORDANCE WITH NFPA 10 1 -2000 7.2.1 G. I ( 1 -5)
I .- Door 15 in the secure position when closed, the door status contact 15 lined up and the locking mechanism
has engaged.
2.- To enter or exit thru the door the person must present a valid card at the card reader, after verification the
system will grant access thru the door by releasing the lock for a set period of time.
3.- In the event of a system failure, the person can exit by push against the door, activating the delayed egress
feature. This will immediately alert the security personnel and automatically release the lock after 15 seconds.
4.- In the event of a Fire Alarm detected by the Fire Alarm System, the system will release the lock, allowing free
egress.
THE ACCESS CONTROL SYSTEM PROVIDED ON THIS PROJECT COMPLIES WITH
THE FOLLOWING CODE:
NFPA 101 Life Safety Code® 2006 Edition
7.2. 1 .5 Locks, Latches, and Alarm Devices.
7.2.1 .5. 1 Doors shall be arranged to be opened readily from the egress side whenever the building 15 occupied.
7.2.1 G. I Delayed- Egress Locks: Approved, listed, delayed- egress locks shall be permitted to be installed on
doors serving low and ordinary hazard contents in buildings protected throughout by an approved, supervised
automatic fire detection system in accordance with Section 9.G or an approved, supervised automatic sprinkler
system in accordance with 5ection 9.7, and where permitted in Chapter 12 through Chapter 42, provided that
the following criteria are met:
( I ) T he provisions of 7.2. 1 .G.2 for access- controlled egress doors shall not apply to doors with
delayed- egress locks.
(2) T he doors shall unlock upon actuation of one of the following:
(a) Approved, supervised automatic Sprinkler system in accordance with Section 9.7
(b) Not more than one heat detector of an approved, supervised automatic fire detection system in accordance
with Section 9.G
(c) Not more than two smoke detectors of an approved, supervised automatic fire detection system in
accordance with Section 9.G
(3) T he doors shall unlock upon 1055 of power controlling the lock or locking mechanism.
(4)* A n irreversible process shall release the lock within 15 seconds, or 30 seconds where approved by the
authority having jurisdiction, upon application of a force to the release device required in 7.2. 1.5.9 under the
following conditions:
(a) The force shall not be required to exceed 15 IV (G7 N).
(b) The force shall not be required to be continuously applied for more than 3 seconds.
(c) The Initiation of the release process shall activate an audible Signal in the vicinity of the door.
(d) Once the door lock has been released by the application of force to the releasing
device, relocking shall be by manual means only.
(5)* A readily visible, durable sign in letters not Ie55 than I in. (25 mm) high and not less
