I. SITE INVESTIGATION:
THE CONTRACTOR SHALL VISIT THE SITE AND FAMILIARIZE HIMSELF WITH THE LOCATION OF ALL EXISTING
UTILITIES STUB-OUTS, PIPING, EQUIPMENT, ETC., AND /OR ANY CONDITION THAT MAY AFFECT HIS WORK. ALL THE
NECESSARY RE- ROUTING, RELOCATING AND /OR REMOVAL OF EXISTING PIPING, EQUIPMENT, ETC., SHALL BE
INCLUDED IN THE SCOPE OF WORK. IGNORANCE ON THE PART OF THE CONTRACTOR WILL IN NO WAY RELIEVE
HIM OF THE OBLIGATIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES ASSUMED UNDER THIS CONTRACT.
2. THE NATURE OF THE REMODEL TYPE CONSTRUCTION POSES SPECIAL PROBLEMS FOR THE DESIGNER ENGINEERS
AS WELL AS THE PLUMBING CONTRACTOR. EVERY EFFORT HAS BEEN MADE BY THE ENGINEERS TO SHOW AND
VERIFY, WHERE POSSIBLE, THE LOCATION OF THE EXISTING PLUMBING SYSTEMS. THE MAJOR PORTION OF THE
PLUMBING SYSTEMS ARE AS SHOWN ON THE DRAWINGS: HOWEVER MINOR DEVIATIONS MAY BECOME EVIDENT
AS THE JOB PROGRESSES. NO ADVANTAGE IS TO BE TAKEN BY THE PLUMBING CONTRACTOR BECAUSE
THESE MINOR DIFFERENCES. THE PLUMBING CONTRACTOR SHALL PERFORM A FIELD VERIFICATION BEFORE
BIDDING THIS PROJECT.
3. CONTRACTOR WILL BE RESPONSIBLE FOR COORDINATING HIS DEMOLITION WORK WITH OTHER TRADES, AND TO
PROTECT FROM DAMAGE EXISTING PIPES USED FOR FUTURE CONNECTIONS.
4. EXISTING PIPES SERVING AREAS REMAINING IN SERVICE AT THIS TIME SHALL NOT BE INTERRUPTED UNLESS A
TEMPORARY INTERRUPTION IS COORDINATED WITH THE OWNER.
5. ALL SERVICE INTERRUPTIONS SHALL BE SCHEDULED WITH THE AUTHORIZED REPRESENTATIVE OF THE OWNER.
ALL REMOVAL AND DISPOSAL WORK SHALL BE COORDINATED WITH THE AUTHORIZED REPRESENTATIVE OF THE
OWNER. REPRESENTATIVE OF THE OWNER (MCH). THE CONTRACTOR MUST BE AWARE THAT, DUE TO THE
LOCATION OF THE PROJECT, PORTIONS OF HIS WORK MUST BE PERFORMED AFTER HOURS.
6. CONTRACTOR SHALL TAKE ALL NECESSARY PRECAUTIONS TO PROTECT PROPERTY IN AREAS WHERE WORK IS
BEING CONDUCTED. THE CONTRACTOR IS RESPONSIBLE FOR ANY DAMAGES CAUSED TO BUILDING
COMPONENTS DUE TO WORK OPERATIONS. PATCH AND REPAIR EXISTING SURFACES DAMAGED AS REQUIRED
TO MATCH ADJACENT SURFACES.
7. THE CONTRACTOR WILL BE HELD RESPONSIBLE FOR ALL EXISTING CONSTRUCTION, INCLUDING EXISTING TO
REMAIN AND TO BE REMOVED. ITEMS AND DEBRIS TO BE REMOVED WILL BE PROPERLY DISPOSED OF BY THE
CONTRACTOR, WITHIN HIS CONTRACT, AT NO COST TO THE OWNER.
8. ANY UTILITY LINES TO REMAIN AND THAT ARE BROKEN OR DAMAGED DURING DEMOLITION OPERATIONS SHALL
BE REPAIRED BY THE CONTRACTOR AT NO ADDITIONAL CHARGE TO THE CONTRACT PRICE, OR SHALL BE
REPAIRED BY THE OWNER AT THE CONTRACTOR'S EXPENSE.
9. ANY DISCREPANCIES BETWEEN THE WORK DEPICTED ON THESE DOCUMENTS AND THE ACTUAL CONDITIONS
ENCOUNTERED SHALL BE BROUGHT PROMPTLY TO THE ENGINEER FOR REVIEW AND CLARIFICATION.
10. ANY DAMAGED EQUIPMENT SHALL BE REPLACED OR RESTORED TO ORIGINAL CONDITION.
II. CONTRACTOR SHALL INSPECT AND TEST THE FUNCTIONALITY OF THE EXISTING SPRINKLER SYSTEM PRIOR TO
COMMENCEMENT OF WORK AND SHALL REPORT ANY MALFUNCTIONS TO THE ENGINEER. IT IS THE
RESPONSIBLITY OF THE CONTRACTOR TO BRING SYSTEM BACK TO WORKING CONDITIONS PRIOR TO
COMPLETION.

FIRE PROTECTION GENERAL NOTES
I. THE CONTRACTOR SHALL FURNISH ALL LABOR, MATERIALS AND EQUIPMENT NECESSARY FOR THE COMPLETE
INSTALLATION OF THE FIRE PROTECTION SYSTEM, ALL IN ACCORDANCE WITH THESE CONSTRUCTION DOCUMENTS.
ALL WORK PERFORMED UNDER THIS CONTRACT SHALL COMPLY WITH LATEST EDITION OF THE FLORIDA BUILDING
CODE (2004). OSHA, NFPA 13,14,20,24,30,72 AND 101.
2, THE CONTRACTOR SHALL PAY ALL INSPECTION FEES, ALL COSTS OF PERMITS AND ALL OTHER COST INCIDENTAL
TO THE COMPLETION AND TESTING OF THIS WORK UPON FINAL ACCEPTANCE, A CERTIFICATE FROM THE LOCAL
INSPECTION AUTHORITY SHALL BE FURNISHED TO THE OWNER.
3. SPRINKLER SYSTEM PIPE SIZES ARE BASED ON THE ENGINEER'S HYDRAULIC CALCULATIONS. THE CONTRACTOR
SHALL NOTIFY THE ENGINEER OF RECORD OF ANY VARIATION IN WATER FLOW AND PRESSURE FROM THE VALUES
INDICATED ON THE HYDRAULIC CALCULATIONS AT THE TIME OF PREPARING THE SPRINKLER SHOP DRAWINGS.
4. THE DRAWINGS ARE GENERALLY DIAGRAMMATIC AND DEPICT A PERFORMANCE DESIGN ONLY. THEY DO NOT
SNOW EVERY BEND, OFFSET OR OTHER FITTINGS WHICH MAY BE REQUIRED FOR THE INSTALLATION IN THE SPACE
ALLOCATED, OR FOR COORDINATION WITH OTHER TRADES.
5. COORDINATE THE LOCATION OF RISER, DRAINS, TEST CONNECTIONS, AND OTHER SPRINKLER SYSTEM COMPONENTS
WITH ARCHITECTURAL, STRUCTURAL, MECHANICAL AND ELECTRICAL SYSTEMS OF THE BUILDING. VERIFY ALL
SPACE CONDITIONS AND DIMENSIONS AT JOBSITE PRIOR TO FABRICATION OF PIPING AND INSTALLATION OF
EQUIPMENT AND MATERIALS. ANY CONFLICTS SHALL BE REPORTED IMMEDIATELY TO THE ARCHITECT /ENGINEER
PRIOR TO BEGINNING OF CONSTRUCTION.
6. CONTRACTOR SHALL PROTECT AND SEAL ALL OPENINGS AND PIPE PENETRATIONS THROUGH FIRE RATED WALLS
AND CEILINGS WITH ADEQUATE FIRESTOPPING MATERIALS TO MAINTAIN THE INDICATED FIRE RATINGS OF THE
ASSEMBLIES BEING PENETRATED.
7. PROVIDE AUXILIARY DRAINAGE DRUM DRIP FOR ALL TRAPPED SECTION OF PIPE.
8. SPRINKLER PIPE SHALL BE NEW CONFORMING TO ASTM SPECIFICATIONS AND SHALL BEAR ASTM STANDARD
MARKED ON EACH LENGTH OF PIPE.
ABOVE GROUND:
A. FOR SIZES ABOVE 2 ", PIPE MAY BE BLACK STEEL, SCHEDULE 10, IN ACCORDANCE WITH ASTM AI35 GRADE A OR
ASTM A53 GRADE A.
B. FOR SIZES T AND UNDER, PIPE SHALL BE BLACK STEEL, SCHEDULE 40, IN ACCORDANCE WITH ASTM AI35 GRADE
A OR ASTM A53 GRADE A.
D. THERMOPLASTIC, UL LISTED, CPVC FIRE SPRINKLER PIPES AND FITTING SHALL BE ALLOWED FOR USE IN
HORIZONTAL RUNS AS DEFINED BY NFPA 13.
C. PIPING THAT IS EXPOSED TO WEATHER OR INSTALLED IN A CORROSIVE ATMOSPHERE SHALL BE GALVANIZED.
9. CONTRACTOR SHALL PAINT ALL ABOVE GROUND EXPOSED FIRE SPRINKLER PIPING, FITTINGS, AND VALVES WITH A
MIN. OF 10 MIL RUST PROOF FIRE PROTECTION RED PAINT IN MECHANICAL / ELECTRICAL EQUIPMENT ROOMS. DO
NOT PAINT SPRINKLER HEADS OR COVER PLATES. EXPOSED PIPING IN ALL OTHER AREAS (CORRIDORS,
STAIRWELLS, LABS, OFFICES, ECT.) SHALL BE PAINTED TO MATCH ADJACENT COLOR SCHEMES.
10. ALL EXPOSED PIPING AND HEAD SHALL BE INSTALLED AS HIGH AS POSSIBLE TO MAINTAIN HEAD CLEARANCE.
SPRINKLER HEADS LESS THAN 7 FEET IN HEIGHT SHALL BE PROVIDED WITH GUARDS.
11. ALL PIPING, HANGERS SUPPORT METHODS AND SPRINKLER HEADS TO BE INSTALLED IN STRICT ACCORDANCE WITH
N.F.P.A. 13, AND ALL LOCAL CODES AND ORDINANCES.
12. HANG ALL PIPING USING SPLIT RING HANGERS AND RISER CLAMPS, SUPPORT FROM GALVANIZED HANGER RODS
FROM BEAM CLAMPS OR PRE -SET INSERT ONLY, SHOOTING ANCHORS IS NOT ACCEPTABLE.
13. ALL SPRINKLER FLOW AND TAMPER SWITCHES SHALL BE FURNISHED AND INSTALLED UNDER DIVISION 15, AND WIRED
UNDER DIVISION 16.
14. TEST 100% OF PIPING SYSTEM AT 200 PSI PRESSURE FOR A PERIOD OF 2 HOURS WITHOUT PRESSURE LOSS.
15. HYDROSTATIC TEST PRESSURE SHALL BE MEASURED AT LOW POINT OF SYSTEM OR ZONE BEING TESTED.
16. THE CONTRACTOR IS TO COORDINATE FINAL LOCATION OF ALL FIRE SPRINKLER HEADS AS SHOWN IN THE
ARCHITECTURAL REFLECTING CEILING PLANS.
17. THE CONTRACTOR SHALL SUBMIT SIGN AND SEALED SHOP DRAWINGS AND CALCULATIONS TO ARCH. /ENG.,
LANDLORDS INSURANCE CARRIER, THE FIRE MARSHALL, AND ALL LOCAL AUTHORITIES PAVING JURISDICTION OF
ALL EQUIPMENT, MATERIALS AND LAYOUTS WITH THE INFORMATION REQUIRED BY THE FLORIDA ADMINISTRATION
CODE CHAPTER 61G15-32 AND NFPA CHAPTER 13 SECTION 14.1.3 FOR APPROVAL PRIOR TO ANY PERMITING,

1. Floor or Wall Assembly-- Min 4 -1/2 in. thick reinforced lightweight or normal weight (100 to 150 pcf) concrete. Wall may also be constructed of
any UL Classified Concrete Blocks *. Max diam of opening is 27 in.

2. Steel Pipe -- Nom 21 in. diam (or smaller) 0.056 in. thick (or heavier) steel pipe. One pipe to be installed either concentrically or eccentrically
within the firestop system. The annular space shall be min 0 in. (point contact) to max 3 in. Pipe to be rigidly supported on both sides of floor or
wall assembly.
3. Firestop System -- The firestop system shall consist of the following:
A. Steel Wire Mesh -- (Not Shown) -- Where needed to aid in system installation in concrete block wall construction, No. 8 steel wire mesh or
min 0.034 in. thick (20 MSG) galv sheet steel may be formed, centered and installed within the through opening such that it is recessed a min
of 1/8 in. from each surface of the wall.
B. Packing Material -- Min 2 in. thickness of min 4.0 pcf mineral wool bait insulation firmly packed into opening as a permanent form. Packing
material to be recessed from top surface of floor or from both surfaces of wall as required to accommodate the required thickness of fill
material.
C. Fill, Void or Cavity Material* -- Sealant - Min 3/4 in. thickness of fill material applied within the annulus, flush with top surface of floor or with
both surfaces of wall. At the point contact location between pipe and concrete, a min 112 in. diam bead of caulk shall be applied at the
concrete /pipe interface on the top surface of floor and on both surfaces of wall.

1. Wall Assembly -- The 1 or 2 hr fire -rated gypsum wallboard /stud wall assembly shall be constructed of

2. Through- Penetrants -- One metallic pipe, conduit or tubing to be installed either concentrically or
eccentrically within the firestop system. The annular space shall be min 0 in. to max 2 -1/4 in. Pipe may
be installed with continuous point contact. Pipe, conduit or tubing may be installed at an angle not greater
than 45 degrees from perpendicular. Pipe, conduit or tubing to be rigidly supported on both sides of wall
assembly. The following types and sizes of metallic pipes, conduits or tubing may be used:
A. Steel Pipe -- Nom 30 in diam (or smaller) Schedule 10 (or heavier) steel pipe.
B. Iron Pipe - Nom 30 in. diam (or smaller) cast or ductile iron pipe.
C. Conduit - Nom 4 in diam (or smaller) steel electrical metallic tubing or 6 in. diam steel conduit.
D. Copper Tubing - Nom 6 in. diam (or smaller) Type L (or heavier) copper tubing.
E. Copper Pipe - Nom 6 in. diam (or smaller) regular (or heavier) copper pipe.
3. Fill, Void or Cavity Material* -- Sealant - Min 518 in. thickness of fill material applied within the
