WHEREAS,ArticleIII,Section5,H,of theCity Charter,requires bidsbe obtained forpurchases of items over $1,000.00;and WHEREAS,TheCity of SouthMiamiParks&RecreationGreyGhosts Football & Cheerleading teamshavebeenaskedto participate intheTurkeyBowleventthatwillbeheld inAtlanta,Georgia fromNovember 24,1999 and returning onNovember 27,1999;and WHEREAS,TheCity of SouthMiami Parks &RecreationDepartmenthasreceived threebidsfromthefollowingvendors: Quality Bus Service $12,200.00 56Seats OK Tours,Inc.$12,200.00 59Seats Millennium Bus Service $12,000.00 58Seats WHEREAS,OkayTours,Inc.,canprovidea59 passenger bus,totaling236seats comparedtotheotherbusservicesthathavelesscapacity;and WHEREAS,Throughhardworkanddedication,the Football &Cheerleading Teamshavesuccessfullycompletedall requirements toattendthisspecialevent;and WHEREAS,Thiseventwillgivethe"City"and participants National coverage; and WHEREAS,Thisbuscompanywouldnotonlyprovidebus transportation but wouldstaywiththeteamduringtheentiretimewhileinAtlanta,Georgia and transport them back home. Our teams,associated with thePop Warner League,would liketo participate in the traditional TurkeyBowl Football games,whichwilltakeplaceon November 24-27,1999. BACKGROUND LastyeartheCity of SouthMiamihostedtheTurkeyBowlforteamsfrom Atlanta's Dekalb CountyPopWarnerLeague.Itwasatremendoussuccessand judgingfromthe feedback we received from ourAtlanta colleagues,itwasan experiencethattheparticipantswillcherishformanyyears. Theboysandgirlsinour football program,assisted by coaches,parents and volunteers have worked hard at numerous fundraisers and in the solicitation of financial support from local merchants and individuals.Most of these young peoplehavenottraveledoutside of Miami-DadeCountyorevenFlorida.For many of themthisrepresentsanopportunitytoexpandtheirhorizonsandlearn fromthisvaluable experience,whilebeing"Goodwill Ambassadors"of theCity of South Miami. Thefundsforthis purchase arecomingfromdonationsreceivedbythe solicitations of local merchants and individuals madebyplayers,coaches,and staff,aswellasnumerousfundraisersconductedbythem.Thetotalcost of transportationis$12,200.00forOKTours,Inc.Fundsforthisproposalwillbe derivedfromAccountNumber 001-0000-219.3500,"Recreation Program Escrow Account"and Account Number 001-0000-131-1000,"Recreation Trust Fund".
