A RESOLUTION OF THE MAYOR AND CITY COMMISSION
OF THE CITY OF SOUTH MIAMI,FLORIDA,EXPRESSING
OPPOSITION TO THE DADELAND JUNCTION PROJECT AS
PRESENTLY PROPOSED;PROVIDING AN EFFECTIVE DATE.
WHEREAS,theproposedDadelandJunctionprojectplans1.7million
squarefeet of buildingallocatedto retail,restaurants,movietheatres,offices,
luxuryapartments,andaneightstoryparkinggarageinthedowntownKendall
area;
WHEREAS,theCity of SouthMiamiwasnot officially notified,neither
throughitselectedofficials of administrativestaff,bythedeveloperorbyMiami-
DadeCounty of theplansforthedevelopment of theproposedDadelandJunction;
and
WHEREAS,thedeveloper of theproposed Dadeland Junction project has
requested a variance to permit amaximum building height of 389.5feet which
wouldallowabuildingapproximatelytenstories higher thananyexisting
structure inthearea of the proposed project;and
WHEREAS,thedeveloper of theproposed Dadeland Junction project has
also requested a variance toreducethetotal number of trees required from 230to
120andthetotal number of shrubsfrom2,300to1,272 resulting ina reduction of
nearly fifty percent of required landscaping;and
WHEREAS,the proposed DadelandJunction project willhavealongterm
impactontheroadsandtraffic,schools,policeandfirerescueservices,lightand
air,sense of privacy,andoverallquality of lifeforcitizens of thesouthMiami-
DadeCountyareaincludingtheCity of SouthMiami;and
WHEREAS,theMayorandCityCommission of theCity of SouthMiami
opposesthedevelopment of theDadelandJunctionproject,aspresentlyproposed,
because of thenegativeimpactsaidprojectwillhaveonthecitizens of theCity of
South Miami.
NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED BY THE MAYOR AND CITY
COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF SOUTH MIAMI,FLORIDA;
Section1.ThattheCity of SouthMiamiCommissionopposesthe
requestedvariancesfortheproposedDadelandJunctionandencouragesthe
Additions shownbyunderlininganddeletionsshownby ovorstriking.
Miami-DadeCounty Board of County Commissioners todenythe developer's
requestandrequirethedevelopertoadheretotheestablishedcoderequirements
which would result inalessdenseandmore aesthetically pleasing development.
Section 2.This resolution shalltake effect immediately uponapproval.
