WHEREAS, Governor Scott recently vetoed allocated state funds for the Underline; and WHEREAS, at the June 23 frl , 2015 Underline workshop held at the Museum of Science it was stated that any funds the Underline gets will be spent in the Brickell area, which means that for the foreseeable future the only thing South Miami will have to show for its $25,000 gift to the Underline will be a book describing the project; and WHEREAS, the Brickell area is 10 miles from South Miami; and WHEREAS, the average width of the Metrorailland is 75' from SW 80th St to SW 72nd St and from the Douglas Station to the Vizcaya Station which, when column width and tree-to- column setback requirements are factored in leaves two strips of land 8 112 ' wide on which trees may be planted. NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE MAYOR AND CITY COMMISSIONERS OF THE CITY OF SOUTH MIAMI, FLORIDA THAT: Section 1. The Mayor and the Commission of South Miami request that the Underline return all of the $25,000 given it by the City of South Miami so that the City of South Miami can plant trees chosen by South Miami's Urban Landscape Committee on land adjacent to the MetroRail. Section 2. Severability. If any section clause, sentence, or phrase of this resolution is for any reason held invalid or unconstitutional by a court of competent jurisdiction, the holding shall not affect the validity of the remaining portions of this resolution. Section 3. Effective Date. This resolution shall become effective immediately upon adoption by vote of the City Commission. PASSED AND ADOPTED this day of _____ , 2015.
