No. 150-01-11298RESOLUTION NO.150-01-11298 A RESOLUTION OF THE MAYOR AND CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF SOUTH MIAMI,FLORIDA,CONDEMNING THE CATASTROPHIC TERRORIST ATTACK ON THE NEW YORK WORLD TRADE CENTER AND THE PENTAGON,THE TRAGIC HIJACKING OF UNITED FLIGHT 93 THAT CRASHED IN SHANKSVILLE,PENNSYLVANIA,AND THE HEINOUS AND EVIL ACTS OF VIOLENCE AND DESTRUCTION PERPETRATED BY TERRORISTS;AND FURTHER STANDING FIRMLY BEHIND AND UNITED WITH THE PRESIDENT AND FEDERAL GOVERNMENT IN ITS MOBILIZATION AND RESCUE EFFORTS AND ITS DETERMINATION TO ISOLATE AND ERADICATE THOSE RESPONSIBLE FOR SUCH HORRIFIC ACTS;AND EXTENDING OUR HEART-FELT PRAYERS AND CONDOLENCES TO THE FAMILIES AND FRIENDS WHO LOST LOVED ONES IN THE WAKE OF THIS NATIONAL TRAGEDY;PROVIDING AN EFFECTIVE DATE. WHEREAS,onSeptember11,2001,anorganizedgroup of suicidal terroristscommandeeredfourcommercialairplanes,withafullload of fuel,and divertedscheduledflightpathswiththeaimtoinflictthemaximumdestruction andloss of life of innocent,unsuspecting people;and WHEREAS,withinanhour,theterroristscrashedtheairplanesintothe twin towers of the World TradeCenterin New Yorkandthe Pentagon in Washington,D.C.,setting off achainreactionthatburnedandburied thousands of victimsundertherubble of thecollapsedbuildings;and WHEREAS,createdasasymboltoworldpeace,theWorldTradeCenter shallremainanundyingsymbolinourhearts of thebraveryandultimatesacrifice of ourfellowlawenforcementofficersandfirefightersandthefortitude of Americans to unite and overcome evil;and WHEREAS,whilephysicalsymbols of democracy,strength andfreedom were attacked,theCity of SouthMiamianditselectedofficialsandeach municipality willunite,remember,extendprayersand condolences,anddefend thefreedomsthatarethecore of dailylivingintheUnitedStates;and NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED BY THE MAYOR AND CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF SOUTH MIAMI,FLORIDA; Additionsshown by underlininganddeletionsshownbyovorstrildng. Section1.TheSouthMiamiCity Commission hereby condemns the catastrophic terrorist attackontheNewYork World Trade Center andthe Pentagon,thetragic hijacking of UnitedFlight93that crashed inShankville, Pennsylvania,andthe heinous andevilacts of violence and destruction perpetrated by terrorists;and further standsfirmly behind and united with the President and the Federal Government in its mobilization and rescue efforts and its determination to isolate anderadicatethose responsible forsuch horrific acts. Section 2.TheCity of SouthMiami extends heartfelt prayers and condolences to the families and friends who lost loved ones in the wake of this national tragedy.
