Mayor and City Commission Street Tree Maintenance Resolution May 15,2001 Page 2 of2 ANALYSIS This resolution would cover onlynewly planted street trees, andonlythose planted pursuant to an environmentally conscientious Street Tree Comprehensive Master Plan. The reason for thisis partlytoprotectthe City's limitedstaffingresourcesfrombeingoverwhelmed, but primarily this resolution is meant to serve asan incentive tothe County to adopt a Street Tree Comprehensive MasterPlan.Suchanincentivewouldbe considerable shouldevery member of theDade League of Citieswouldadoptsimilarresolutions, andtheCity of SouthMiamicouldbealeader insuchaneffortthroughtheadoption of thisresolution. Itisfeltthatthe existing City staff is capable of properly caringforany new street trees subsequentlyplantedbytheCounty.Aswithanynewlyplantedtree, thecriticalneedisto water thetreeuntilitis established, afterwhichonly periodic careis necessary. As demonstrated bytheCityfollowingthelarge-scaleLiveOakandSatin Leaf plantingsinpreviousyears, the City's staff isfullycapable of handlingsuchundertakings.
