No. 056-01-11204RESOLUTlbN NO.56-01-11204 A RESOLUTION OF THE MAYOR AND CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF SOUTH MIAMI,FLORIDA,SUPPORTING THE MISSING ANGELS INITIATIVE;URGING ALL MIAMI- DADE MUNICIPALITIES TO PARTICIPATE IN THE NATIONAL MISSING CHILDREN'S DAY;"PROVIDING AN EFFECTIVE DATE. WHEREAS,theformer United StatesPresident Ronald Regan signeda resolution declaring the 25th of May as "National Missing Children's Day"in 1984;and WHEREAS,fromthatday,thenumber of missingchildrenhasnotbeen reduced,onthe contrary ithas increased,andtheproblem isn't being faced correctly;and WHEREAS,Every three minutestwo-children are reported asmissing according toastudydonebytheUnited States Justice Department;and WHEREAS,MissingAngels,a local organization thatinthelastthree years identifiedmorethan 150 missing children intheUnited States;and WHEREAS,MissingAngleswillbeholdingthe first annual commencement of National MissingChildren'sDayatBayfront Park onMay25, 2001. WHEREAS,ThisFirst of itskindeventtakingplaceinMiami-Dade County will serve to celebrate such an important dayaswellas bring awareness andeducatethepublicaboutthe reality of missingchildreninourcountry. NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED BY THE MAYOR AND CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF SOUTH MIAMI,FLORIDA; Section1.ThattheCity supports theMissingAngle Initiative. Section2.TheCity Clerk is directed to provide acopy of this resolution toMiami-Dade County municipalities. Section3.ThoseMiami-Dademunicipalitiesareurgedtosupportthis initiativeby participating intheeventand adopting a similar resolution "National Missing Children's Day. In the same way we can mention the case of teenage resident of Miami,who ran away around the middle of i-ebruary,being found during a nighttime surveillance and intense investigation that lacked the support required in these cases.She was rescued from the hands of group that cause psychological traumas. That is the reason of our support to the city of South Miami Mayor,Mr.Julio Robaina,who recently proposed the project of law "Alert Amber"which already counts on the support of different cities of South Florida,non-profit organizations,and of course with collaboration of the Mayor of Miami-Dade,Mr.Alex Penelas.
