COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF SOUTH MIAMI,
FLORIDA,RELATING TO FUNDING THE MARTIN
LUTHER KING,JR.,PARADE,THE UNITY DAY
BREAKFAST AND BLACK HISTORY MONTH;
AUTHORIZING THE DISBURSEMENT OF FUNDS IN THE
AMOUNT OF $7,300 TO THE DR.MARTIN LUTHER KING,
JR.,COMMITTEE FROM ACCOUNT #01-2100-519-9910,
ENTITLED "CONTRIBUTION—SPECIAL EVENTS".
WHEREAS,theDr.Martin Luther King,Jr.,Committee submitted a Cultural and
Community Grants Program Application totheCity of South Miami forthe Annual
Martin Luther King,Jr.,Parade,UnityDay Breakfast and Black History Month;and
WHEREAS,members of the Grants Advisory Board have reviewed the
application and recommended approval of thegrant;and
WHEREAS,the Mayor andCity Commission of theCity of South Miami support
the Annual Martin Luther King,Jr.,Parade,Unity Day Breakfast and Black History
Month Event sponsored bythe Committee.
NOW,THEREFORE,BE IT RESOLVED BY THE MAYOR AND CITY
COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF SOUTH MIAMI:
Section 1.TheCity Manager is authorized to disburse thesum of $7,300
totheDr.Martin Luther King,Jr.,Committee from account #01-2100-519-9910,
entitled "Contribution—Special Events".
Section 2.This resolution shalltake effect immediately upon approval.

BACKGROUND AND ANALYSIS
TheDr.MartinLutherKing,Jr.,Committee submitted a Cultural and Community Grants
Program Application tothe City of South Miami requesting $7,300 in funding forthe Annual
Martin LutherKing,Jr.,Parade,Unity Day Breakfast andBlack History MonthEvent.The
Unity Day Breakfast is scheduled for 9 am,Saturday,January 13th;the Parade is scheduled for 9
am,Monday,January 15th;and the Black History Month Event is scheduled to occur the fourth
week of February.
While theGrants Advisory Boarddidnothavea quorum duringitsNovemberandDecember
meetings,those members present atthe meetings recommended fully funding these events,given
thattheMLKCommitteehasheldtheseeventsforseveralyearsandarerequestinglessmoney
than last year.
ThedisbursementwouldbechargedtoAccount #01-2100-519-9910,entitled "Contribution—
Special Events".The available account balance is $75,000;the resulting balance would be
$67,700.

3.I Black History Month this event honors those pioneers who have contributed to the
