A RESOLUTION OF THE MAYOR AND CITY COMMISSION
OF THE CITY OF SOUTH MIAMI,FLORIDA TO HONOR CITY
PIONEER RON MILLER BY CO-NAMING SW 68th STREET
AFTER HIM.
WHEREAS,throughhistime,effort,andresources.RonMillerhelpedto
develop,nurtureandimprovethecitythroughhis contribution tothe community and
civic events,and;
WHEREAS,tothisday,Ron Miller's legacy continues to have a positive impact
ontheCity through the improvements to Community Newspapers*headquarters,and;
WHEREAS,the City andthe community wishto have this pioneer honored and
long remembered.
NOW THEREFORE,beit RESOLVED bythe MAYOR AND CITY COMMISION of
the CITY OF SOUTH MIAMI,FLORIDA:
Section I.The following street segments tobenamed after City pioneers by
addingtheirnameonthe street sign,aswritten below,placedabovethepresent street or
avenue number.

Section 2.TheCity Manager ishereby authorized to submit a resolution to
Miami-Dade County to authorize thestreetnamingand proceed withthe installation of

The attached resolution seeks Commission approval for co-naming SW 68th Street after South
Miami pioneer Ron Miller.
BACKGROUND
Since its incorporation in1923,theCity of SouthMiamihas been home toa number of
individualswhohavebeenanimportantpartofthecity'shistoryand/ormadesignificant
contributionstoitsquality of life,economicdevelopment,and other importantareas.
In1966,RonMillerstarteduptheCommunityNewspaper operation inSouthMiami.This
successfulenterprisehasgrowntoa12differentweeklyandmonthlypaperscounty-wide.
Throughouthis30-yeartenurein"theCityofPleasantLiving",Ronwasafrequentand
consistent contributor of his time andresourcesto community causes,civic events,and other
effortsaimedat making South Miamiabetterplacefor everyone.

RonMillerwasofthemindsetthathelpingthecommunitywasextremelyimportantandthat
everyone should doit.Ron Miller instilledthis philosophy inhistwo sons,Grant and Michael,
who currently manage Community Newspapers.Another significant contribution andfurther
enhancement ofRon'sheritageistherecent expansion and renovation ofthepaper's
headquarters at SW 62nd Avenue.The attractive paint and nicely landscaped parking lot has
servedto improve the aesthetics of this important street.
ANALYSIS
Theproposedname of thispioneerwillbeplacedabovethestreetoravenuenumberwithinthe
streetsign.Thesenewsignswouldbeinstalledattheintersectionsbetween 61st Avenueand
64th Avenues along SW 68th Street.
A proposal to co-name this street will be presented to Miami-Dade County for final approval
subsequent to authorization by this Commission.
RECOMMENDATION
TheCityofSouth Miami Commission and Administration strongly believe thatcity pioneers
suchasRonMillershouldbehonoredand remembered.Therefore,approval of theresolution
callingfortheproposedstreetnameisrecommended.
