The following are the accomplishments for the Police Department for the time period May 4th, 2015 through May 18th, 2015: Chief's Office i. "Staff Own-A-Zone" program yielded 43 citizen and business contacts throughout the City; ii. A total of 968 events for service were handled during this period; iii. One (1) new officer was hired and sworn in. The new officer has completed orientation and began field training; iv. Worked with Law Publications to create new crime prevention materials and publications and also purchased children's coloring books to enhance outreach; Uniform Patrol Division i. Total of 16 arrests: 5 felonies, 8 misdemeanors, and 3 traffic. Out of the 16 arrests 3 warrants were served and 3 arrests were narcotics related. Community Patrol i. Conducted 16 citizen contacts within the CRA area; Criminal Investigations Division i. C.I.D. detectives patrolled both the shopping areas and residential areas to deter residential and vehicle burglaries. ii. C.I.D. responded and interrogated several habitual shoplifters involved in Victoria Secret Thefts totaling thousand of dollars. The subjects provided full confessions. iii. C.I.D. tracked down and arrested a fraud subject who has been on the run for quite sometime. iv. C.I.D. detectives are currently working with other police agencies in an effort to close a robbery case where multiple jurisdictions have been affected. Services & Property and Evidence I. Revised filing system to categorize and efficiently store property and evidence in the Property Room is currently being implemented; II. Quartermaster module being implemented for better tracking and assignment of police issued equipment; III. Eligible owners of firearms are being notified for pickup. Disposal list for firearms melt is being compiled. Currently there are 43 eligible firearms for disposal; IV. Prisoner van (99-39) is at DSS having emergency equipment serviced/refurbished; V. JDRF vehicle was serviced at DSS for emergency equipment refurbishment. Professional Standards Division and Training i. One (1) potential new police officer hires are in the final phase of the hiring process and upon successful completion should be on board soon. PUBLIC WORKS DEPARTMENT Engineering and Construction Division SW 42 ST Design for Roadway and Drainage Improvements: Purchase Order and Notice to Proceed were issued. Survey is complete. Geotechnical services are underway. SW 78 ST Design for Roadway and Drainage Improvements: Purchase Order and Notice to Proceed were issued. Survey and Geotechnical services are underway. Sunset Drive Roadway Improvements Ph. V: Project is ongoing. Milling and resurfacing is complete. Thermoplastic paint is complete. Curb and Gutter paint in Coral Gables Beige is scheduled to be completed, when weather permits. Pending punch-list. Irrigation system was tested and accepted by PW. Twin Lakes Drainage Improvements Design: Consultant submitted 90% plans. Drainage calculations and plans are under review. Police Fueling Facility Improvement: Construction is ongoing. Foundation for Installation ofthe canopy is complete. The installation of the electrical conduits and storm sewer pipe is complete. The canopy is installed. The vacuum equipment and key pad controller are being installed this week. Street Lights (Cobra Heads) on 67th Street: Pending further instructions. Sunset Drive Striping: In the process of coordinating with contractor and Purchasing. Median Landscaping along US1: Project being coordinated with FOOT. Pending further instructions. Pinecrest Villas Traffic Calming Design: The 90% design plans were submitted to MDC for preliminary review. Surveying continues in an effort to attain concurrency results for as many traffic calming devices as possible. Twin Lakes & Bird Estates Traffic Calming Design: Consultant submitted 90% of the design plans for review. Plans were provided to Miami Dade Public Works for preliminary review. Mango Terrace Traffic Calming: Surveys continue to be collected to fulfill the concurrency requirements. Once obtained, results will be submitted to MDC for project approval. Manor Lane Traffic Calming: Project was advertised for RFP. Bid opening was on Thursday, April 23, 2015. A resolution to award the project will be presented to commission on May 19, 2015. Street Name Signs: Contractor began sign fabrication. Installation will commence on this week. Street Paver Repairs: Repairs are ongoing at SW 67th Ave/SW 64th Street, SW 58th Ct!SW 73rd Street, and Sunset Drive at City Hall. SW 67th Ave and SW 58th Court. Bus Shelters: Locations were submitted to Miami Dade Transit for review and approval. Locations are along SW 59th Place / Church Street. Public Works (Below are completed work orders that go beyond the day to day requests & duties). i. Picked up fallen branch at 6243 SW 57 Street that was blocking driveway as requested by Police. ii. Trimmed trees on 50th Terrace & 63 Avenue as requested. iii. Removed graffiti on 73 Street & 58 Avenue as requested by Director. iv. Filled a pot hole on Sunset Drive & 59 Court. v. Installed Police signage along Sunset Drive approaching City Hall as requested by Police. vi. Installed a "No Thru Truck Sign" on 78 Street & 63 Avenue as requested by Resident. vii. Affixed "Children at Play" sign to a pole at 6025 SW 63 Terrace. viii. Picked up tires on 60 Street & 63 Terrace (illegal dumping). ix. Removed 5 shopping carts between 72-74 Street & 64 Court. x. Filled 30 trash holes throughout the City. xi. Repaired electrical outlet in the Sylva Martin Building as requested. xii. Installed a lock on the garbage container on 72 Street & 57th Avenue as requested by Director. xiii. Repaired, painted and installed street bench on 72Street & 57 Avenue as requested by City Manager. xiv. Painted Police rooftop with white silicone paint as required. xv. Replaced 4 exterior lamps in the Sylva Martin Building as required. xvi. Repaired electrical outlet, 4 lamps, transformers & 8 T8 light bulbs in parks office. xvii. Replaced 24, 26 Watt light bulbs throughout the Community Center as requested by Parks. xviii. Repaired sink in the Sylva Martin Building as requested. xix. Replaced damaged sink in the women's restroom at the Community Center. xx. Repaired PVC pipe for AC drainage in the Police Department. PARKS: Gibson Bethel Community Center will be closed Saturday, May 23,d through Monday, May 25th for installation of new carpet tile. New Playgrounds at Brewer Park, Dante Fascell Park, Fuchs Park & Murray Park o Recommendation response to ARC's bid protest was sent to CM on 5/18. o Awaiting CM final decision. New 1st Level Tile Floor at the Gibson Bethel Community Center o Construction schedule to commence Memorial Weekend, Saturday through Monday, May 23'd -25 th . Parks Master Plan o P&R Residents' Survey is now available on city's website. o Public Workshop #1 is scheduled Thursday, June 25 th and Saturday, June 27'h Dante Fascell Park Drainage Improvements o Milian, Swain & Associates (Consultant) received NTP on Thursday, 4/16. They've 90 days (July 16th ) to complete the professional engineering plans. Murray Park Multipurpose Field Renovation o RFP solicitation released on Friday, 5/8. Palmer Park Concession Stand Remodeling/Renovation o RFP solicitation released on Wednesday, 5/13. RECREATION In-house Tennis Operations • Staff currently working on compensation plan for Tennis Operations Supervisor; • Job posting should be published by Tuesday, 5/26. Football & Cheerleading • City background screenings are complete. • Waiting for HR to report results. Summer Camp • Registration for summer camp is now open; • 25 of 100 participants have registered for camp thus far. • $900 collected in revenue to date. Upcoming Events • Outdoor Movie Series beginning Friday, June 5th with a showing of Monsters University (Rated G) on the Murray Park large field. This will be the first of three movies shown in South Miami parks this summer.
