4THE CITY OF PLEASANT LlVINC To: FROM: DATE: SUBJECT: BACKGROUND: AMOUNT: CITY OF SOUTH MIAMI OFFICE OF THE CITY MANAGER INTER-OFFICE MEMORANDUM The Honorable Mayor & Members of the City Commission Steven Alexander, City Manager Agenda Item No.: ~ July 15, 2014 A Resolution authorizing the City Manager to expend an amount not to exceed $9,500 for the purchase and installation of fiber cable and conduit from Tropical Communications, Inc., to support the Murray Park Community Pool. As construction of the Murray Park Community pool nears completion, plans are underway to install a Point of Sale (POS) system, video surveillance equipment and internet connectivity. In order for those systems to be operational, the pool facility must be connected to the City's existing fiber network. The City solicited quotations for the installation of fiber from responsible bidders and is recommending the low bidder, Tropical Communications, Inc. A summary of the quotations are below: Tropical $9,024.94 Communications, Inc ASE Telecom $16,307.88 Teleswitch $24,660.00 As a point of comparison, Tropical Communications base quotation for running fiber from the Community Center to the pool is $7,887.48; significantly lower than the two other quotations. A separate quotation was requested for running fiber cable within the pool building. That quotation, $1,137.46, completes the fiber connection from the Community Center to the pool office. The combined quotes, plus a 5% contingency, represents the "not to exceed" amount of $9,500. Ref.: Pool fiber run Further to your request below we have outlined the Scope of Work to run a 6 strand fiber cable between the Pool and Gibson Bethel Community center. Notes: 1) Trench a pathway between the eXisting building and the new pool facility and install a new 2" PVC conduit (approx ... 270 feet). A pull box will be located at each end from which the conduit will be extended to the exterior surface of each building and a core hole will be drilled to gain access to the interior ceiling space. 2) Install a 6-strand MM 50-micron fiber cable between the two buildings using the new conduit pathways. Within each building, the drop ceiling spaces will be used to route the fiber cable from the point of entry to each IT room. 3) Terminate, label and test all fiber strands using LC type connectors, which will be housed in new fiber enclosures at each end. 4) Install, terminate, label and test four (4) CAT6 cables within the new Pool Facility and provide a modular wall-mount patch panel. 1) Pricing does not include permits (if required). 2) Additional costs may apply if engineering drawings are required by the City for permitting purposes. 3) Pricing includes replacement of sod over the trenched area.
