RESOLUTION NO. _____ _
A Resolution of the City of South Miami, Florida, naming a portion of S.W. 64 th
Avenue, from S.W. 64 th Street to S.W. 66 th Street as "J. B. Mozell-Tompkins
Avenue".
WHEREAS, Mrs. Johnnie Belle Tompkins was a member of the South Miami community for
over eighty-seven years; and
WHEREAS, in January 2010, the City of South Miami paid tribute to Mrs. Tompkins on the
occasion of her 90 th birthday; and
WHEREAS, Mrs. Tompkins was also recognized by the City of South Miami in January 2005, as
one of nine "unsung hero" Pioneers, for her grass-roots efforts throughout the years of dedicated
commitment to the community; and
WHEREAS, Mrs. Tompkins brought joy and inspiration throughout her lifetime. She served God
faithfully and followed his teachings daily. She tried to instill the love of God to all her children and their
families and everyone she came in contact with; and
WHEREAS, we, the City Commission, celebrate the legacy of Mrs. Johnnie Belle Tompkins by
naming that portion of S.W. 64 th Avenue, from S.W. 64 th Street to S.W. 66 th Street as "J. B. Mozell-
Tompkins Avenue".
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE MAYOR AND CITY COMMISSION
OF THE CITY OF SOUTH MIAMI, FLORIDA:
Section 1. The Mayor and City Commission of the City of South Miami, Florida hereby name
that portion of S.W. 64 th Avenue, from S.W. 64 th Street to S.W. 66 th Street as "J. B. Mozell-Tompkins
Avenue".
Section 2. Severability. If any section clause, sentence, or phrase of this resolution is for any
reason held invalid or unconstitutional by a court of competent jurisdiction, the holding shall not affect
the validity of the remaining portions of this resolution.
Section 3. Effective Date. This resolution shall become effective immediately upon adoption by
vote of the City Commission.
