applicationand recommended approval of thegrant;and
WHEREAS,theMayorandCityCommissionoftheCity of SouthMiamisupport

NOW,THEREFORE,BEIT RESOLVED BYTHE MAYOR AND CITY

Section1.TheCityManagerisauthorizedtodisbursethesum of $2,000
and provide "cin-kind,?servicesinan amount of $7,500 tothe Cultural Affairs

BACKGROUND AND ANALYSIS
The Cultural Affairs Council of South Miami,Incorporated,submitted a Cultural and
CommunityGrantsProgramApplicationtotheCity of SouthMiamiforArtExpo2000.The
eventwilloccurJanuary8-9,2000,between9amand5pmontheportion of SunsetDrive
fronting CityHall.
On December 16,1999,the Grants Advisory Board reviewed the application and recommended
approval.The application included a request for $2,000 incashand $7,500 in"in-kind"services.
The disbursement of the cash andthefunding of the "in-kind"services would be charged to
Account #01-2100-519-9910,entitled "Contribution—Special Events".The available account
balanceis $60,015;the resulting balancewouldbe$50,515.

Toshowcase performing artists of allagesby creating andprovidingconcertserieslocatedin
South Miami,Miami-Dade County,Florida.Theconcertserieswillgiveemerging performing
artiststheopportunityto perform,togain experience byperforminginpublicandtoprovidethem
withtheexposurethatwillfurthertheirartistic achievements.Toenhancethewell-being of the
communitybyproviding the opportunity to attend concerts thatare both convenient andwhich
theentire family andpeople of allagesandbackgroundscanattend,includingthosewith
disabilities.Todevelopanawareness of the performing artsamongthe public andotherwise
enrichthelocalcommunity.Toprovideandstrengthenthe programming and educational

TheCulturalAffairsCouncil of SouthMiamiwastherecipient of grantforFY-98-99inthe
amount of $6,500in-kindtodiffercostincurredbyArExpoSouthMiami1999withregardsto
police and waste management services provided bythe City ofSouth Miami.Please note that,the
totalamount of thecostwasover$9,000(Ninethousanddollars);thedifferencehadtobe
coveredbyCultural Affairs Council of SouthMiami's fund.
7.Previous Grants from other public and private organizations:
At present,Miami Dade Cultural Department has not been solicited,since the criteria requires
the event tobeat least three years oldto qualify for alternative sourcesof funding.This being the
second year of ArtExpo,the Cultural Affairs Council of South Miami is hopeful thatby next fiscal
yearitwillbean applicant forthe FY-2001.
