A Resolution acknowledging Commissioner Bob Welsh's (Group Seat III)
appointment of Laurie Kahn,asthe representative of Group Seat III,to
serve on the PlanningBoard,fora two-year term ending June 1,2017.
WHEREAS,Article II,Section 8,Sub-section A of theCity Charter provides that:
***When a Board or Committee is comprised of five members,each City
Commissioner shall appoint one person toserve asa representative onthe
Board or Committee.When there are more than five (5)members on a
Board or Committee,each City Commissioner shall appoint one person to
serve asa representative on the Board or Committee,and all members of
such Board or Committee in excess of five(5)shall be appointed by three
(3)affirmative votes of the City Commission based on recommendations
submitted by any City Commissioner.When a Board or Committee has less
than five(5)members,then the selection of all members shall beby three (3)
affirmative votes of the City Commission from recommendations submitted
by any City Commissioner.(Amended 2-09-10)
WHEREAS,theCity Commission desiresto acknowledge the appointment of Laurie Kahn,a
resident of theCity of SouthMiami,toserveforatwo-yeartermonthePlanningBoard.Appointment
shallexpireJune 1,2017 oruntilremovedorunlessasuccessorisdulyappointedandqualified;and
WHEREAS,commencing with appointments made after January 1,2009,Sec.2-22
"Term Limits"of theCode of Ordinances provides that,appointees are limited totwo(2)
consecutive two-year terms of membership ona specific commission,board,or committee.
Afterservingamaximum of two(2)consecutiveyearterms,anappointeeshallnotbe
reappointedtothesamecommission,boardorcommitteeunlessatleastoneyearhaselapsed
betweenthetermlimitedpositionandtheeffectivedate of commencement of theproposed
appointment fora new term;and
WHEREAS,Sec.2-22 "Term Limits"oftheCodeofOrdinances,asamendedbyOrdinanceNo.
06-14-2184,datedApril 15,2014,provides thatthe appointer,orhisorhersuccessorinoffice,mayextend
thetermlimitsofhisorher appointment withthe advice and consent ofa majority oftheCity Commission;
and
WHEREAS,thiswillbeMs.Kahn's first,two-yeartermservingonthisBoard.
NOW,THEREFORE,BE IT RESOLVED BY THE MAYOR AND CITY
COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF SOUTH MIAMI,FLORIDA,THAT:
Section1.TheCityCommissionherebyacknowledgesCommissionerWelsh'sright
to appoint Laurie Kahntothe Planning Board asthe representative of Group SeatIII pursuant to
the terms of the City Charter.
Section 2.The expiration date of this appointment shallbeJune1,2017,or
untilremovedoruntilasuccessorisduly appointed and qualified.
