1951-02-16 MINUTES OF CITY COUNCIL SPECIAL MTG�v f° MINUTES OF THE SPECIAL MEETING OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF SOUTH MIAMI HELD FRIDAY EVENING, FEBRUARY 16, A.D. 1951 AT THE COMMUNI'TY BUILDING AT 7 :00 P.M. The meeting was called to order by President Prebish. with Councilmen.Andrews-, Gresham, Preble,and Prebish, and Mayor Acker responding to roll calla President Prebish stated that becausP g, of the special meetin the'reading of the minutes of the previous meeting would be dispensed with at this time, President Prebish read the notice of the meeting which had been called for the purpose Of canvassing the returns of the Election of February 13, pursuant to Florida Statutes which provided for the Council to act as a Canvassing Board. antelope containing the Official Return Sheet and read President ein etilebsh opened the Resolution No. 382 was then read, as follows: RESOLUTION NO. 382 A RESOLUTION OF THE CANVASSING BOARD OF THE CITY OF SOUTH MIAMI CANVASSING 711E ELECTION RETURNS OF THE GENERAL ELECTION HELD ON FEBRUARY 13, S.D. 1951 FOR THE PURPOSE OF ELECTING A MAYOR AND FIVE COUNCILMEN PURSUANT TO SECTION FOUR (4) OF THE CHARTER OF THE CITY OF ;SOUTH MIAMI AS AMENDED. WHEREAS, the C ity Council sitting as a Canvassing Board, having examined the Return Sheet of the General Election of the City of South Miami held February 13, A.D. 1951 and certified by the Election Clerk and the Eloation Inspectors duly appointed, hereby declares the said Return Sheet to be proper and correct, and WHEREAS, the said Return Sheet:reoords the 'votes cast for the candidates in said election, as follows: For Mayor 1A- Clayton W. Acker 322 2A Winford W. Brown 253 3A John W. G. Fritz 290 For Counoilmen: 4A H. Hollis Barrow 348 5A Henry P. Bennett 317 6A J. M. (Pat) Bryant 404 7A Julian L. Carballo 288 8A Edward J. Wallis 149, and VMEREAS, the 'above tabulation shows that the followink five (5) candidates received the highest number of votes cast for Councilmen, in the order as follows Page - -2 le As G. Corley and that no candidate for Mayor received a majority of the votes cast for Mayor, NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE MAYOR AND THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SOUTH MIAMI: 1. That pursuant to Section 4o of the C harter of the City of' South 'Miami as amended, " ae A. G. Gresham, Jr. and J. Me (Pat) Bryant have been duly elected to serve as Councilmen of the City of South Miami, Florida for a term of three (3) years, commencing March 1, 1951 and ending March 1, 1954, anal be Carl Gluck, H. Hollis Barrow and Edward J. Corley have been duly elected to serve as Councilmen of the City of South Miami, Florida for a term of one (1) year, commencing March 1, 1951 and ending March 1, 1952, and 2. That pursuant to Section 4e of the Charter of the City of South Miami, as amended, a`Run -Off Election is necessary to sleet a Mayor from the two (2`) highest candidates for mayor, to -wits Clayton We Acker and John We G. Fritz, which Run -Off Election has been set by Resolution, No. 380 and 1+380 -A for 'February 27, A.D. 1951. Councilman Gresham, seconded by Councilman Andrews; moped that Resolution "No. 382 be adopted as read.
