The meeting was called to order by President Prebish with Councilmen Preble, Carballo, Gresham, Andrews, Rebozo and Prebish and Attorney Ruff responding to roll call. Mayor Acker joined the meeting during the reading of the minutes of December 5th. Mimrtes of the meeting of Decayzber 5, and of the insert for November 28,, were road. Councilman'Carballo stated he had requested that certain things be included in the minutes. 37hy are his rights not followed by the Council. President Prebish stated that Airs. Martin is not a Court Raporter. After discussion, the minutes were approved as read. PETITIONS AND COrlIARTICr TIOlis: a. Res Improvement I1-20.; President Prebish read the notice for the rearing, as published in the December 8 issueA of the RIVIERA TIMES. J. E. Murray stated they would like an explanation regarding the costs of the improvement. Councilman Gresham stated the costs were based on 35; per square yard which runs 35 an abutting foot for an 18 ft street. When the project is completed there will be another hearing f or its acceptance. At that time they either pay or sign a waiver' and pay over a period of 5 years at 6%. Owners of corner lots must pay on be th street fronts. Marshall 'Wrilliamson. questioned having donated land and having to pay for the ila provement,•that "he has a total of about 1000 ft., stated he objects to paying for the street and having given it. Potion carried and Ordinance 1,25 read by caption only. Councilman Andrews asked that Ordinance No. 425 be placed on the agenda as the first matter of unfinished business at the next meeting. Councilman Carballo then proposed reading the ordinance setting up the. particular departments. Councilman Preb3e stated it is quite lengthy and wondered if the Council decided to read it now or have copies made and go over between now and the next meeting. Councilman Carballo moved giving thv first reading now and then make the conies and decide for the next meeting. Iyiotion lost for lack of a second. Councilman Andrews suggested calling for a special meeting next Tuesday and take up get copies. Councilman Rebozo agreed with this. ' Attorney Ruff suggested adjourning this meeting instand of calling a special meeting•; f. A communication from L. C. Proby, attorney for tars. Grace Borer, re: her claim against the City for "certain lands taken by the City for use as a public street.!' President Probish read the letter in full, Following discussion, President Probish sugge.-tod that Councilman Gresham take the matter up with Ur. Proby and got him hero at the next meeting. Councilman Andrews, seconded by Councilman' Carballo, moved that Ordinance I1o. 224, caption of which follows, be placed on third and final reading in its entirety. Councilman Carballo, re: fire hose being hard to get after 'January 1, stated he wishes to order 200 ft. of 22 ino hose and 100 ft. of' 12 in. hose, that he has the money in the budget for that. Ile has been ,yarned that hose will be ta.'•.cen for other purposes after the 15th. of January. He has letters from 3 different companies, prices' on hose have gone up 10 0. The 22 in. is x;1,.53 per ft. and the `12 in. is 1.08 per ft. He would Bice authority to order from the Eureka Hose• Attorney Ruff suggested buying; in 4 different sections so that each order is under $100.00, Councilman Carballo stated two of his three letters are from agents for the Eureka. Attorney 'Ruff urged the Council to give approval because of the times. The Council gave its O Ko , and recommended that the purchase be made in: sections Councilman Preble stated in due consideration of the services rendered, they grant the City employees a Christmas bonus, that heads of departments, the Clerk, Chiefs; be given $25.00 bonus each, other employees for one year or more, ;x'15.00, and those' - 6 months to one year $10.00 and those under 6 months q$5.00 Councilman Carballo asked if this didn't need a resolution and recommended they authorize it tonight and confirm it at the next meeting. President Prebish read a letter from the South Miami District Chamber of Conurce advising of their execution of a lease with the F.E.C. Ry. for the "land along the RIW from Reed Road south to So. 4th. Avenue, ivheroby this area can be surfaced and utilized for parking purposes, and recommending the City's utilization thereof. Don Glore, Executive Secretary of the Chamber, stated the lease is for '1 year but renewable each year unless the tracks should be taken out. Councilman ,Robozo askod about installing parking meters.
