members of the Council and Atty. Yates responding to roll call.
L!inutes of the regular meeting were read and approved as corrected2 to
read on page 6 that the salary of Marion Finch j,Be retro- active to
h,ay 1-18 and on page 12 that Mayor Acker "understood t hat he was elected
for that (proposed public works supervisor) "+
Minutes of the adjourned special meeting of May 24 were approved as read.
Minutes of the special meeting of isay 249 called for 9:30 r.IL- were
approved as read.

Councilman Frebish recommended that the minutes be cut by eliminating de-
tailed dscussionsi etc.
Qouncilman Freble) seconded by Councilman Corley, moved that the meeting
be adjourned at midiight.-
c`ohn W. Fritz, representing 3 residents in the block on S. W. 49th St., went
of Red Rd.2 stating fheY would like a street light there2 calling atten-
tion-to the %ct that this light had been requested from the former
Council, at which time no funds were available2 and that a light had
been installed at S.4v.4bth St., and 56th.Ave. at the request of residents who
had only recently built there and moved in.
Councilman Andrews, seconded by councilman Carball.o, moved that the request
be referred to the Streets & Parks Chairman for study and report. Motion
carried.

Benj. Adler appeared in his own behalf stating that slaughtering chickens
was clearer than raising themo that he considered his place not a
slaughter house but a killing house and asked the Council to reconsider
the zoning decision made previously. Following discussion) MO.. Brewer
stated the principal objection brought out at the hearing was to the
slaughtering during the night and early hours of the morning and the
noise.

Following further discussion, a call for vote on the motion brought an a

on the 'Council meetings, was read.
Pres. Van Dusen read a: letter from the State Road Dept. with reference
to the widening of U.S. 1 from South Miami southward, stating there were
no funds.
A letter of thanks' for the appointment of a colored policeman was received
from the Mt. 'Olive Baptist church.

A letter of thanks from A. T Ewell, Cubmaster of pack 24, was readt com-
mending the City officials in general and the Police officers for helping
make their annual IIScoot Day" 'a success.

trol for South Miami; was read. Councilman prebish suggested that in
view of the possibility of state rent decontrol, the matter be held
up. and Mr. Mills advised that if the state law does not go thru, the
Council will consider it.
A letter from L., '.gepp, vi.D. asking for a copy of the zoning restrictions,
was referred to the Zoning Board. (see minutes of adjourned .meeting dune
8 for reversion of this action)
A letter from Miller Associates, asking reply to their - request For an ex-
tension of time, was read.
Councilman A drews2 seconded, by Councilman Carballo, moved that in accord-
ance with the request of hiller Associates, the City Council, grant an ad
ditional 60 days added to the original 30 days granted iii the letter of
April 13, and than the time limit For complying with the ordinance be

An. application of Larson ".enterprises, unlimited, for an advertisiazg agency
on an out -of -town address, was presented.
Councilman Preble stated that if they are not established in South -Miami
they Would be solicitors and not an agency, :and the Clerk was instructed
to class the application as solicitor.

Chairman Preble reported that in connection

Mayor sicker stated. that Mr. kmrrison of the Coconut Grove panic had called
that afternoon and he was to see' him in the morning, that it was a ques-
tion of interest ajtt4 rates and he would like authority to negotiate
00the loan. It was agreed that Chairman treble and I.iayor Acker go to the
bank in the morning.
Sanitary: Councilman Prebish asked whether they were still picking up
unpaid accounts. Chairman Corley said the men were told not to but were,
still picking, up. ditty. Yates was to check the garbage fee ordinance and:
see if it can be improved, and was to get together with Uhairman Corley
on this.
Fire: Chairman Carballo reported on the 5 fire wells finished, repairs to
fire truck at the iliami Fire 'Departaient, and with supervision of P. L.
Smallwood, of the Peter Pirsch Co., in checking for all necessary parts.
ie stated the pumper is now in first class condition with 1948 parts in
the original housing, and guaranteed. The trailer is also fixed and
ready for action. He also reported the need for additional booster hose
and that he had ordered 50 ft. He discussed the City's fire insurance
rating, stating that it is "U" (unsafe), as reported by the man at the
Rating Bureau and that he hopes to get the premium sates dropped but his
plans are not quite complete.
Police.;; Councilman Prebish brought up the matter of temporary police
officer Jordan's pay, stating that the procedure in the past had been
not to furnish uniforms to substitute men and believed that he should be
paid $180 per month., and that one pair of pants had been bought.
Councilman Prebish', seconded by Councilman Corley, moved that :um. Jordan's
spay be increased to $180.00 per month, retroptive to the beginning of`
his service. Motion carried by poll, as follows;

& Light Co. for approval of _a high Line to go east on N. 4th St. from N.

Councilman Prebish seconded by Councilman Andrews, moved that the matter
be referred to the Zoning Board and suggest they secure competent electri-
cal advice upon which to base their findings. Motion carried.
Chairman Gresham also presented a request from F &P* & L. Co. to set a, pole
in the alley, as platted in h1Vli -rLt Fl1,' j adjacent to l,ot g, to provide
electrical service to that property because of the refusal of the owner,
'.J. D. Christensen, to give an easement in from ited hoed along his south
property line.

The water situation was to be held over-to the adjourned meeting on Vied
nesday.
Buildings. Chairman Andrews reported that they were taking steps for
possible condemnation proceedings in colored town.
Chairman 4ndre«s called attention to the fact that the, electrical in-
spector is the only employee on a fee basis and therefore getting no
vacation pay3 and made the motion seconded by Councilman Prebishy
that R. C. caammage be given vacation pay of 4i90 (half a month on an
average of 4;180. per month in the past year on fee basis).
Following discussion, the motion failed by a poll, as follows:
