The meet -±g was called to order by Vice -Pres. Bryant, with Attorney :call. Councilmen Atwood, Shafer, i�!aples and Bryant repponding to roll call.. kiinutes of the three. Equalization Board meetings of July 12, 13 and 14 respectively, were approved as read. lies. Barrow joined, the meeting at this point and took over: Minutes o� the regular meeting of July 20, of the special meetings of July 23 and 27 respectively, t ^were approved as read. Chas. Stephens, of 1:12 Sunset Drive,, appeared before the 'Council to request permission to solicit subscriptions for the Reader's Digest. i'ollow;ing a discussion, Councilman Raples2 seconded by COLUlcilman 'Shafer, moved that the Council approve the solici-ting of subscriptions for Reader's Digest only by Chas. Stephens, a local resident, and sub- ject to revocation at the will of the Council. Motion carried. George Brewer, member of the Advisory Zoning : Planning Board, brought lip the question of objections to the re- zoning of a corner in STOB1,.1- PROOF2 the Ravlin colored subdivision just across the line on N. 8th as outlined at the original hearing before the County Zoning Dept. on ejune 21, at which he had represented the City at the Council's request,. He stated that the objections given were a matter of record there and were as follows: (1) no need for a store at this time. e2) the Zoning and Planning Board is trying to work out an aver -all plan; for business iuz the areas adjoining the County,, (3) it t,'ras spot' zoning. Councilman Pressley joined the meeting at this point Following further discussion, in which Councilman Bryant took respon- sibility for urging a reconsideration on grounds set forth by Box. Rav lin, and which were not upheld, Councilman Bryant, seconded by Council- man Maples, moved that upon further consideration the Council revoke its motion of July 20 approving the change of zoning and revert to the original objections. 1dotion carried. The Clerk was inst-ructeO to address a letter to the County Zoning Department to that effect, with carbon copy to County Commissioner 1. D. 1lacVicar. On recomnendation of Atty. Vard, Councilman Bryant, seconded by CCouncil- man Maples, moved that the City take a membership in the ilorida League Of I4unicipalities at the reduced fee of 4?30.00. Motion carried: A letter from James 111. Le Gate of 15 S. 11th 6t.2 was read2 complaining ng of pot holes in the street and high weeds aloni; the edges& in the matter of insurance policies carried by the City, the Clark was authorized to gave a list of the coverages to other agents but not the amount of premiums paid. Councilman Pressley, seconded by Councilman Bryant, moved that ordinance #1749 caption of which follows, he priced on fin -st reading in its entire- ty- T:otiori carried.. Following discussion, Councilman Pressley, seconded by Councilman Bryant, moved that the Council accept all recommendations of the Advisory Zoning & 'Planning Board as made, and that a letter be addressed to Ex. Wilchar1) advising him of this action and giving him a reasonable time 10 comply. Motion carried, Atty. vlard brought up the matter of Fred Acker's request that that portion of his acreage now in the County (and at one time in the City) be re-instated in the City and quoted Sec. 91 of the City's charter w � ` .. on annexing property. It was agreed to take it to Court and,, see if it can be taken in without going to the Legislature. Councilman Shafer= seconded by Councilman Pressley, moved that the City act on the re- quest of 1x. Acker under Sec. 91 of the Charter, and authorize and instruct Atty. .,ard to proceed with the necessary legal proceedings. Motion carried.
