present Councilman Maples read the proposed budget for the 1948 -49
fiscal years explaining the need for the increased appropriations,
which were creating a problem of budget balancing. ,
it was generally agreed that services should not be curtailed and that
it would also be unfair to throw the added burden on the direct tax
payer but that the 'exempt home owners should assume their part. This
led to a discussion of a garbage tax and when it was suggested that
a show of hands be asked for as in favor of this tax,, at 4i1.50 per
month2 none were opposed.
