The meeting eras called to order by Pres. Ulark with Uouncilmen Bryant

iAinutes of the regular meeting of June 15 were approved 'as read.
Edwin Johnson, 901 N. E -2nd Ave.; Miami, as crew manager for a group of
solicitors for the Collier Pub. Co ,, appeared before the Uouncil cyith
request for permission for his group to solicit for book and magazine
subscriptions. Chief McKinney explained that because of numerous
complaints in the past concerning house -to -house soliciting of every
type he had been instructed some time ago to put a ban on all solicit-
ing except any that had been 0*K.1d by the Councily and that this is the
first man ever to come before the Council after having been referred to
it. Yollowing discussion and further questioning of 11r Johnson. Council-
man Pressley, secolded by Councilman b+7aples moved that .action on this
request be held over until the next regular meeting, for investigation.
Notion carried.
3. Le Carballo appeared before the Council to urge that something be
done to straighten out the crossing of S. 4th Ave. and U. S. 41 to
eliminate that traffic hazard and Atty. Vlard advised that this matter
has already been taken up with the proper authorities but that the VEX
R-R and the State Road; Department will have to co- operate.
in connection with the Water ,situation, Atty. Ward reported on further
conferences with W. A. Glass, who stated that a distribution system
cannot be operated profitably on a cost of more than 655.00 per unit
installed and advised tying in with another system in the area.
It was decided that Councilmen Maples and Bryant talk with water offi-
cials at North Miami and Homestead and get information as to what it
costs to serve and maintain their plants.
Councilman Shafer brought up the question of drainage in the newly- platted
subdivision OAK HEIGHTS with special reference to the building of the
streets. it was believed to be more than a local problems and he Was
advised to take this up with the County &jgineer's office.
The Clerk reported that in response to a telephone inquiry the State
Beverag e Department advised that the City will have to be governed by
official census figures (State or Pederal) in permitting additional
package stores or bars, and no new ,licenses can be granted in the County
for the same reason, but that if an existing license is purchased it
can be moved to any other location in the County.
Following a discussions Uounc'ilman 5haferj seconded by Qouncilman Hryantj
moved that the Advisory Zoning and planning Aoard be asked to hold a
hearing at its earliest convenience to consider a change of zoning on
Sunset Drive from the Railroad to lied. Road from the present C-3 to C -1
and that no building permits for other than the C -1 use be granted in
this area ponding the hearing. :otion carried.

!yard be paid 4416.05,A balance of fees for 1.947 -48, as Of June 30. 1ilotion

Councilman blaples, seconded by Councilman Pressley, moved that a letter
of appreciation of his services be written Attye, Ward,; to be signed

Reports of standing committees were as follows.
Finance: Altho not under the heading of finance, Councilman Bryant
brought up the matter of the Iverson Head request for a change of zoning
on Red Road. hollowing discussion, Councilman Bryant, seconded by
Councilman Pressley2 moved that the Clerk cheek with the local FRA,
office on the report that they will not make loans for one - family
residences on Red Rd,, and if it is true that they grant on duplexes
only;, that the Advisory Toning and Planning Board be asked to arrange for
hearings to change the zoning on all Red' Rd. property so affected to a
use that, will make FHA financing available to the owners. Motion carried.

Police. Chairman Pressley reported he had checked.on the prisoners' meals
being furnished by the Holsum Restaurant, and found them ample. Healso
tendered the written resignation of Ufficer R. 0. (Dick) wiegand as of
July1. Councilman Pressley seconded by councilman 4hafer, moved that
the resignation be accepted. lotion carried.
A legal notice,, request:4-ig bids for a new police car was reported to
have been inserted in the papers calling for the bids to be opened at
the regular meeting on July 20.
In connection with the tendered resignation of Mayor Thompson2 Council
man viaples% seconded bF Councilman °6hafer, moved that whereas the
iylayor has submitted his resignation and tho Council wishes more time
in which to consider same, this matter shall be continued until 7:30
P.M. Monday, duly 12. motion carried by :poll, as follows:
