The meeting was called to order by Pres;. Barrow with P.:ayor Vander
boegh and.Councilmei Gladden] Shafer, Sapos, Naples, Brown and
Barrow responding to roll call. ,
Minutes of the regular meeting of February 4 were 'approved as read.
E. L. Cotton appeared before the Council on zoning matters, with
special reference to the .40 -acre tract west oz N. 4th Ave. and south.
of No. 8th St. , legally described as the NE--.1 of SVYr, Sec. 25-54-40. -
Following a discussion, Councilman Browns seconded by Councilman
Gladden, moved that the residential area in said NEI of 51-19 Seca
25-54 -40 be revised to a minimum 800 sq. ft. one- family residence
extent on N. 4th St., where the minimum shall 'be a 900 sq. ft one'
family residence, at such time as the said property is subdivided
into lots not less than 109000 sq. ft. each. Motion carried.
C. L. Brooke's request for a change in zoning from residential to
commercial use for the balance of the south half of Block 8 TCVINSITE
OF LARKP+IS was referred to the Advisory Zoning Board with the recom-
mendation that it be changed.
A written and oral request of the Rev. Harvey L. Rodgers for per
mission to conduct religious street meetings in the business dis-
trict on Saturday evenings was considered from various angles, and
Councilman Maples, seconded by Councilman Shafer, moved that Rev.
Rodgers' be given permission to try the meetings at Stang's lots
provided it is agreeable with Mr. Stang and that there is no com-
plaint from residents in the nearby 'area, said meetings to last no
longer than one and one -half hours' beginning at 6 p.m. Motion
carried.
Charles Hayes and "Walker Miller requested permission to install and
operate a midget golf course on S. State Highway on some lots in
DORN DRCS subdivision. Councilman Shafer, seconded by Councilman Brown
moved that the Council grant its approvalt as a special use under Sec.
IX ^of Ordinance 98. Motion carried,
R. E. Chivers of the Holsum Bakery appeared before the Council in con-
nection with a building permit for the cooling; tower of the new plant
and also took up the matter of street repairs on 11. Red Ct. It was
agreed to 'wait until all construction had been completed and do the
entire block..
The certificate of election returns of the Municipal Election held on
February 11, 1947 was read, showing the following results:

On the strength of the .above, returns, Councilman Brown, seconded by
Councilman Maples, declared E. L. Thompson el.,cted as Mayor, and
W. T. Clark, J. Iii. (Pat) Bryant, Edgar B. 9hafer� J. F. Maples,
W. H. Atwood, H. Hollis Barrow and ','l. A. FTe'ssley, Jr. elected as
Councilmen. Motion carried.
Reports of standing committees were as follows:

Fire: O.K. Chairman Maples reported that Chief 'Melton had located
12 coats and 8 helmets, which the City had agreed to purchase, and
that the men will buy their own boots It was also agreed that the
coats and helmets are to be kept on the trucks for use of those answer
ing fire calls

Streets & Parks: Chairman Sapos presented the written resignation of
J. W. Smith as streets & parks man and building and plumbing inspector.
effective March 1. Councilman Maples, seconded by Councilman Brown.,
moved that the resignation be accepted with regrets. Motion carried:.

In comiection with fires, Councilman �ihufer, Called attention to a recent

Councilman Gladden, seconded by Councilman Shafer, moved that a vote of
w thanks be given the City employees for their work for the past two years'
with the City Council. Motion carried.
In response to legal notice for bids, one sealed hid was received for*the
old police car.: This was in the amount of $750. and made by Earnest
Tatum. Councilman Brown, seconder! by Councilman Maples, moved that the
City accept the Tatum bid due to the fact that it was a reasonable offer
v-i d no other bids had been received. Motion carried by poll, as 'follows:
