CITY HALL AT 8:00 P.M.
The meeting Was called to order by Pres. Barrow with Mayor Vanderboegh
and Councilmen Gladden, Shafer, Sapos, Maples, Brown and Barrow re
sponding to roll call.
Minutes of the regular meeting of December 17 were approved as read.
Reports of standing committees were as follows.,
Finance. O.K.
Sanitation: O.K.
Fire: Chairman Maples reported receipt; of the 100 ft. of 2 ?" fire {
hose and the adapter, which leaves only the two 10 ft sections
r of suction hose outstanding on the order.
Police: Chairman Brown presented the resignation of Officer T. R.
Matz and staged that he had put R. 0. Wiegand on, on a temporary
basis, on December 28. Other applications for the vacancy were presented,
as follows: Jim Hale, Louis H. Hicks, Robt. Hutchinson and Donald
Jacobs. Following a discussion, in which it was also brought out that
Wiegand worked well with the other men in the department, Councilman
Brown, seconded by Councilman Maples, moved that R. O. ; "die &an,,be

$167.50 in view of the fact that he already has uniforms. Motion
carried by poll, as follows:

Streets & Parks: Chairman Sapos reported that he had found a man who
had worked at Richmond until it closed, to operate the Huber Main-
tainer and do other work, at $45.00 per week, with the understandiizg
that it was only on a temporary basis for the present. Following a
discussion, and interview with him, Councilman Sapos, seconded by
Councilman Brown, moved that the City hire J F. Shuck at k045.(-10 per week,
payable out of the Reserve Fuhdj beginning January 89 on a temporary
basis. Motion carried by poll, as follows:

Following a discussion regarding the application of 1A. J. Johnson for
taxi and U&drive -it , certificates, Councilman Brown, seconded by
Councilman Gladden, moved that since the local boys (Gresham and
Cummings, operating as the South Miami Taxi) were giving good taxi
service and will put on more equipment as needed, no further certificates
-of necessity be granted until the demand shall require same. Motion
carried.
The confusion caused by the difference of names for the same street,
depending on whether they were City or County, in the north end of
town, was discussed and suggestion made that small placques with the
County tame be attached to the South Miami signs where there is conflict,.
It was agreed that ;a survey be made to see how many such corners should
have double signs.
The request of Robert Wo;odley to start a concrete block plant on a
vacant lot on N. 2nd lid. across the street from the colored Methodist
church, was tabled.
In line with other permit fees Councilman Brown, seconded by Council-

Councilman Gladden, seconded by Councilman Shafer, moved that the
bills as read be paid as of December 31, 1946, in order to have
them included in the first half -year audit for the 1946 -47 fiscal
